Random Thoughts

My favorite "fad" of the moment if you can call it that, is dance shoes -no socks!! A la Carlos of Zafire!!! (he of the awesome blue dance shoes with Zafire logo).

You're not really supposed to wear socks with loafers, especially in summertime and with light weight clothing or god forbid with shorts on. Or it's at least totally ok to go sockless.

I've done the dance shoes and no socks thing too :)

Secret: They're most likely wearing super low cut socks that you can't see. That's what I do to spare my feet and shoes.

I understand there's some big ball game going on at Target Field tonight.
Since you mentioned it...
There was a news account that the pre-party disturbed some 'fly-over country - back water hicks': the fireworks were set off late at 12:30 am and complaints came in via twitter.

Conclusion: I guess Minneapolis is no Rio de Janeiro or Paris or other bona fide party town. OMG, someone is having fun after 10pm .

All performances have become equally bad (or good) ever since I stopped wearing contact lens to salsa events. It's all a blur now. Maybe that's why I don't dislike them as intensely as I used to.

Every time I go to some small music store to buy some claves, it's always their last set of claves, and just to fake me out there's always a huge stack of those plastic flute/recorders?!?!?

Today just a few random thoughts about a salsa/mambo friend leaving. My good buddy and fellow SFer Groovy mambo is leaving Seattle for Cambridge in England, I am definitely going to miss him, I learnt a lot about "salsa" music and dance from him and I will miss our ongoing conversation about clave switches and Son montuno versus Cha Cha. Enjoy your time In England and spread the gospel according to Mambo U. I look forward to your updates on the scene in general across the pond.

On the plus side, maybe this will be the genesis of a new NY style on2 scene in Cambridge. :)
