Random Thoughts

I own only 1 pair of street shoes and 4 pairs of dance shoes. I am looking to buy 2 more pairs of dance shoes for a variety of reasons. I am not thinking about another pair of street shoes right now.

I ahve 2 pairs of dance shoes: one for class and one pair if heels for going out. Sadly, I don't treat my suede-bottomed heels very well. I have walked home i the rain in them etc. so I suppose they have lost whatever virtue they had in terms of the sole. They are still comfortable however.

Very surprised about Tokyo - I recall there being significant community opposition to hosting the Olympics. I wonder how much support there will be in Japanese society. I was rather hoping Istanbul would win - somewhere different, an amazing city culturally and historically...well, whatever. :)

I suppose the Olympic committee must have decided that uncertainty over the nuclear situation was the lesser of the two evils compared to the potentially very shaky political situation in Turkey.

The IOC may have considered the shaky financial situation too*.
While Turkey's debt ratio is favorable compared to other countries, almost all of the debt is borrowed abroad, so if there is a change in the world economy, then the effect on Turkey is much stronger. Spain's economy has not yet recovered and it would be tough to justify spending money on the Olympics in the middle of a huge recession. In Japan, by contrast, virtually all of the debt is held by Japanese institutions even though it is the highest in the world.

Also, I believe Tokyo has all the facilities already, only minimal upgrades needed and the transportation system is easily the best in the world.

I was just talking with a friend on the phone. We were talking about the difference in taste between red onions and white onions. I like red onions. She likes white onions.

A joke from a salsera friend when I told her about taking tango classes:

Salsa dancers dance:
on1
or on2

Tango dancers dance:
ennui

Hmmmmm.

I see below my SF profile pic my name and then tumbao. I'm quite sure that I didn't put the word tumbao there.

Did someone hacked my SF account?

I heard Carlos Santana criticizing Dr. Dre for selling beats headphones ( at a fund raiser event for the John Coltrane Home in Long Island )... but if you go to Carlos' web site he is selling perfume, pumps, wine and tequila under his name. Huh?

Pumps :wacky: what kind of pumps ? Fuel pumps ? Oil pumps ? Water pumps ?

I'm about to cycle the entire, magnificent Great Ocean Road, from the South Australian border to Melbourne. See you in 10 days (of 4-5am mornings...) and 610 kilometres! :)

Of course, I end up missing a great local Colombian salsa band playing on Saturday night :(

My favorite Brave of all time, Tom Glavine! Into the Hall! Yes!!! Greg Maddux was a no brainer, but Glavine getting in too is awesome. I will have to pull out the Glavine t-shirt I bought at Turner Field years ago and wear it to training when I get my teams started again this year. Oh dear, I'm starting to worry. One of my teams doesn't have a strong bullpen (well, a bullpen at all...) or a back-up catcher...

Go Braves!!

Im not surprised Tom was elected. The 3 (with Smoltz) with the assortment of Pen relievers over that period, I doubt will ever be repeated. I can remember sitting out side the club, on many a Sat. nite , listening to the radio, and not going in, until the 9th was over. And dont lets forget, one of the best managers of all time .
Which year were you in Atlanta ?
