People improve

There was a girl I danced with about four months ago, and I just have to say she was one of the worst dancers I have danced with in a while. She seem to have some health issues, extremely heavy in the arms, and very little concept of rhythm. But she was very nice, and it was almost a joke at the time, because she knew that she was not dancing very well.

But I have to say tonight I was astounded at how much she had improved in a short time. I’ve been seeing her at the dance every time I go so she must be there practicing a lot.

It is always wonderful when you see that people can improve, and it says a lot about what’s possible for yourself too.

Four months is definitely a short time but over time I have seen beginners blossom into beautiful dancers.

It could be she was fighting off some injuries or found a really good teacher to fix her mistakes! Sometimes when you get back into dancing after injury, etc it can take time to find balance and smoothness.

It is wonderful when people improve. Ones that irk me most are the ones who for years can't seem to correct themselves.

I'm always amazed to see when people improve ... sadly, in my venue people improve mostly when they stop attending local classes and/or when they are absent from social dancing in local venue ... :(

How can this be?

I know too many cases of people who want to improve, but have some kind of psychological blockage preventing them from doing so. I'm talking about guys. Some of them end up giving up salsa and take up something easier. But if they truly love salsa, they will stick with it, but it is difficult to watch them continuing to struggle. I also think it can be related with age. The later you start dancing, the bigger the barrier to entry. I definitely want my dancing to age gracefully.

How can this be?
in my case i stopped salsa dancing for more than a year due to life change , also once a week going to salsa party became boring for me. i still listen to salsa music at home or while driving , just not so much into going to dance party anymore as it becomes repetitive and not so much fun. i have been practicing and improving pachanga , funk dance though in my spare time as it is what i truly enjoy besides cuban rumba and afro dance.

i kinda started going back to salsa party a couple of months ago after moved back to canada from europe. even though i forgot some patterns, i am a much better dance than before, from the feedback and i know that too, actually its very easy to see, just put a mirror at home and dance in front of it, then you see exactly how you dance and very clear if you become better
