On 2 beginners' classes in London

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum - please feel free to move it as necessary :D

I went to the UK congress at the weekend and the on 2 bug bit after I attended an intro to on 2 class.

Now I'm looking for a beginners' on 2 class in London. Friends have recommended Irene Miguel's course and also Manhattan Mambo. However both of these are classroom based. I may well try one or both but I'm also interested in club drop-in classes so I can practice afterwards. Can anyone help me out? I've looked on the internet and there seem to be plenty of int/advanced classes, but beginners' classes are proving more elusive!
 
Hi, I'm not sure how many of these are on 2, but here are a few i know of:

Tropicana Salsa - currently at Sway Bar on Wednesdays, but may move to Mondays at Sound

Bar Salsa - Saturday with Latin Krazy, Monday, Wednesday with The Latin Collective Team, Thursday with Latin Krazy (my favourite day).

Bar Rumba have Barrio Latino

Bar Cuba - Thursdays

Classes without clubs - i LOVE Pineapple on a Friday night 7-9pm. Just absolutely great teaching.
 
you could contact tamambo at sos. i used to go to their class at ruby blue on wed in leicester square where they did an on2 beginners class as well as 3 levels of on1. havent been in ages. you could also contact joe davids of latincollectiveuk.com. they used to do different levels in their technique class (now on tues in barbican). might only be on2 int/adv plus other levels on1 (but dont quote me on that). i had a couple of on2/cha cha lesons at their old venue (though dont want to learn on2 just yet).

I see there have been a lot of views since you posted so I'll share my researches so far to help other budding on2-ers out there:

Manhattan Mambo teaches on2 improvers & up in its weekly classes on Wed at gymbox on Holborn. It only does a beginners' class at its monthly social. Not sure if this will be enough to allow you to attend their on2 improvers thereafter.

Monday @ Bar Salsa is Susana and Mario and I am 90% sure that this will be on1 only, as both teach me already and I know Mario in particular is an on1 man.

The Latin Collective (Wed @ Bar Salsa and Tues at Barbican) does 5 levels from absolute beginners up to advanced - but no comment about whether they are on 2 or not.

Tropicana Salsa (Sway on Wednesdays) and Tamambo (SOS/Ruby Blue on Wed) - sites don't say whether on 2 or not

Barrio Latino - site disabled......!

This info all comes from their own websites as some of the stuff on Londonsalsa looked pretty out of date.

I'll keep you posted - might drop a line to Tamambo/Latin Collective to see what they say.

BTW - did anyone go to the intro to on2 class at the UK Congress and if so do you have an mp4 you could send me? Due to a technological crisis mine has gone phut. I will be eternally grateful :notworthy:
 
Irene Miguel, an excellent teacher based near London Bridge. Her website is w ww.irenemiguel.com Try and make her classes if you can.
 
There is a new On2 class and club starting this evening.

London-Salsa has teamed up with Irene Miguel 's Danzalifestyle Dance School to launch a new salsa/mambo class and club night this Saturday 20th October.

This is a new weekly club night with an emphasis on On2 style of salsa/mambo.

Every Saturday we'll have classes with Irene Miguel and her team, great music, regular shows, lots of friendly dancers and a few surprises! Come and help us celebrate the start of a very special new club night.

Further update:

Joe at the Latin Collective confirms that the Tuesday classes at the Barbican are on2, taught alongside on1. Not sure quite what this means - i.e. does he teach 5 levels of on2 from absolute beginners to advanced and are they totally separate from the on1 classes, or all part of one class but with a 'this is how you do the move on2' aside.

However it *was* a definite yes to my enquiry about beginners on2 which is what the thread was about.

NB Latin Collective only does on2 classes on Tuesday and not on their other teaching days.
