Phone numbers starting with letters is how all phone numbers in most of the U.S. prior to 1969 used to be set up. The letters represented the area or neighborhood the exchange could be found in.
Was it like you called operator for these numbers? Or my second guess is I've seen letters on American button phones, so it could be a convention that ABC - 1; DEF - 0; etc.? I'm just piecing this together from random stuff.

No and Kinda, but No.

Everyone's personal phone number began with 2 letters for the reasons I expressed once upon a time. By the time that dance celebrating Little Johnny took place those numbers were slowly being phased out. Which is why some of the guys you could call to.purchase tickets from had straight digits. Whereas "Papitin" was still using a personal phone number with two petter in front.

Google will help answer any questions you have.

That same year Cuban Sonera LINDA LEIDA's mutilated body was found on a Bronx street. And much like Chamaco Ramirez, Linda's killer(s) has never faced justice.

Do you know anything more about Linda Leida? She's one of my favourites but the only biographical info I have ever found is the following:

It states that in later years she had some problems with the law (which she sings about in one of her songs) and was spending time with drug dealers. Which probably relates to her tragic death (no judgement on the great Linda Leida is implied).

I'm afraid not.

In her defense 98% of the music industry had a connection to the illegal drug culture. As a consumer or as a dealer. The wealth provided by the drug game is what some people of color opted to get ahead where they otherwise may not have during their era. Truth be told drugs wasn't what ended Linda's life. It was a man who had no problem striking a Woman. Misogyny has killed many a Woman by Men who were never involved in any illegal activity.

Agreed.

Fortunately she left some great recordings. I have 1 album with Jávier Vásquez and 2 with resident SAR musicians. All superb. One of her tracks - Tumba - gets played in Cali but she has plenty of others that are also danceable.

And "Quique" or "Kiki" (Ismael Travieso Rodriguez Scull) on the Lower right staring at the camera pursing his lips. He was Arsenio's brother and percussionist.

This was captured at the old Village Gate, which Arsenio participated in. The event was recorded. Unfortunately, as one source (Arturo Gomez) put it, there was feedback with the amp Arsenio's tres was plugged into and caused distortion. So the producer Pancho Cristal had to drop him from the final cut. "Descargas at the Village Gate" Vol I & II are available online.
