NYC this weekend!

I'm going to NYC this weekend and am planning to dance every night. I'll go to Jimmy Anton's on Sunday, but I'm not sure what the best bet is for Friday and Saturday.

Friday: Mambo Fateegz or Yamulee?
Saturday: Mambo Saturday's party w/Carlos or Karisma social?

Any advice?

Thanks. :)

Doesn't anyone dance to live music in night clubs any more? :-)

It's really a shame that there aren't the choices of clubs with live bands playing Salsa in New York City like there used to be... besides LQ and Julia de Burgos on Wednesday nights and BB Kings on Thursdays, where else are there good live bands playing for Salsa dancers? GyG has live bands but it's a mob scene and a pickup joint (nothing wrong with that). Isn't there a club on Columbus Avenue hosting live bands on Friday nights billed as "Copa Nights", or something like that?

There's a bunch of Colombian night clubs in my neighborhood (clubs like Chango, Sarabanda, Extravaganza, etc.) with famous Salsa artists performing live, but somehow I don't think most people on this forum would go there for serious dancing ( unless you bring your own partner ) -- plus, the live music doesn't even start until after 1:00 am or so in those clubs, which is fine by me.

well since the clubs are tightpack, soda/beer all over the floor, and live bands that insist playing 12 minutes song, there is little incetive to go to them.

A salsa dancer needs: Clean wood floors, Good dancers and Good music, socials provide these so we go there.

Once I tried to make it to a Brooklyn happening club, there was an hour wait line, $20 dollars cover, incredible loud loud music, no place to dance.

I will go to watch/pay for a live band to chill and listen to the music, but for dancing I take a good DJ any day. I have yet to find a live band that caters to dancers, by making their songs dancer friendly, I appreciate that they are there to highlight their band, and their members with their interminable solos, but the dancers needs are such that the bulk of dancers wont see live music with the same appreciation that says... listeners may have.

But you forgot to mention the occasional stabbings and coke dealers in the bathrooms that the nightclub once offered. And Minnie Mouse has replaced Linda Lovelace on 42nd Street. :-) This town ain't what it used to be.

plenty of live bands here. SOBs fridays, sessions 73 on fridays, gonzales & gonzales on thursdays, just to name a few you haven't mentioned.

Thanks! Oh yeah, SOB's on Fridays. And I need to check out Sessions 73 on Monday nights. I mentioned Gonzalez y Gonzalez, but I called it GyG for short. Lively crowd at Gonzalez and some decent bands, but you can't move in there -- worse than the #6 train at rush hour. Thanks for reminding me about SOB's. I think Spanish Harlem Orchestra had a CD release party there recently, too.

Dont go to gonzales & gonzales for dancing, i went there a month ago, and oh my gosh, it was imposible to move, everyone was packed, Nice, cool, big place though., maybe a good place to grab some food in a festive atmosphere.

For SOBs, BYOD ( bring your own dancer :))
