Not coping with fast songs

"Vamonos pal monte" I like this song. But the music is too fast for me. Its a 7 minute long song.
"Merecumbe" I can dance, but my feet hurt.

Does it happen to others? I am guessing some steps might work.

Boleros are very popular but they're very rarely played at Cali salsa venues or house parties. Live bands often do them. Even at venues that do play boleros (the only one I recall is La Topa), fast salsa is still the norm once the club is busy.

Incidentally, to me Merecumbe is fast but not excessively so, and it's a very danceable tune. Whereas Vámonos pa'l monte I would never choose to dance to.

No one around here is crazy enough to play the first song. Great song for scaring away the BS'ers, though.

But generally people have problems adjusting to fast songs when all they hear is slow melodic musak type stuff.

I am guessing some steps might work.

The toughest part, IMO, is trying to get your partner to match your speed. I have met very few followers who enjoy fast songs. Go as simple as you can.

Well, Eddie Palmieri is infamous for not wanting people to dance to his music. :D
For someone who doesn't want people to dance to his music, he certainly has some very danceable tracks.
The solution is smaller steps, mostly in place. What older people do in Cali as well.

Even the typical Cali moves that younger people do work with fast tracks. In fact in Cali they have the reverse problem: the typical moves don't work so well with slower tunes.

As far as I know that's the original. There is at least one more recent version (which is ok but I much prefer the J Colón).

I don't know if @Smejmoon was being sarcastic. Edie often plays very jazzy tunes. I have heard him many times. Sometimes at indoor jazz concerts where there is no space to dance and live at dancing events. Some of the tunes he will play are better for listening to and dancing. And mostly that is what people did, stop dancing and start listening infront of the stage.
