New timba

They removed Suave Tumbao almost entirely, the best versions of songs by Angel Yos and in 2021 even a super popular album of Mayimbe which was later returned.

Why do bad things always happen to good people?!?

Well, I did a timba version of Cielito Lindo back around 1998 at ICIAC. I finally released it along with some other archival tracks from 1998 - 2004 as I get my master rights back. BTW, you can get the whole album free (pay what you want). It's called Tierra Caliente.

No live video that I can find for this track though. I remember recording it about 3 or 4am since I already booked 12am - 6am, and we finished the track I came to do. So this just sort of happened. I have the date listed as March 20, 1998.

People I remember on the track.

Jose Antonio Rodriguez - Voz
Emilio Vega -Piano
Yunior Terry - Violin
Mipa (Don't remember his real name, anyone know?) - Congas
Luca Brandoli - Bongo, Guiro, Campana, Coro, Inspiraciones (last time)
Jiovanni Cofiño - Bass, coro
Jon Griffin - Tres, Guitar solo
The trumpet was played by Yunior's cousin, but I don't have his name.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the link.
Mipa is Alexis Cuesta, the conguero who was with Manolín, right?

I'm also pretty sure the timbales were Vizcaino, but I don't have it on the track sheet. I'm much more anal about that stuff now. Things moved so fast and I figured, I'd never forget.

It's ok but not the big hit.

I like "Homenaje al Guaguancó" which is mainly la Revé. With it's Palo intro and Abakuá outro, it seems to refer to the festival workshops. Will play it tonite at my party and see who hops on the folklor. :-D

I'm not a fan of nasal voices so Alexander Abreu can do no wrong in my opinion. He shines. Always.
