New releases tracker: regularly updated Spotify playlist with the best new releases

I am a curator for latin music, supplying music to DJs around the world. This means I try listen to every new bachata, salsa, cumbia and merengue release. I maintain, for my own use, a Spotify playlist of the most noteworthy of those releases, and I have decided to make it public.

As I just joined the forum, I cannot post links yet. You can find the playlist, by searching for "musica latina nueva new latin music" from DJ Fuerte.

I have just posted an update to the playlist, with no less than 49 good releases over the last 2 weeks! If you think that's a lot, you have not heard the source material: I manually curated it, heavily trimming it down from many more releases. A few albums filled with good songs played a big part.

Those are the current releases. There a few faster songs, like the ones from Orlando Poleo, but most of the others are what I would call standard speed for dancing. Personally though, when I dance, I do like faster music, like salsa cali, salsa dura, bachata dominicana, or merengue. But I also enjoy some slower tempo. Here is a great brand new slower release, which I will soon add to the playlist:

From Sweden :) One of our "local bands". Nice that they have been working on new material during COVID.

That song is so slow it hardly qualifies for a Cha cha. If I used that for teaching I would lose pretty much all of my class. Yes, I do prefer slower tempi in salsa and Cha for dancing and teaching but I do also enjoy fast styles for listening pleasure ( Africando is a good Eg of contrast on many of their albums )

In my opinion I do not think you would like the majority of tracks. I know, music is subjective but from a dance and teaching aspect, not my cuppa.

I am fine with that. The point of this playlist is not to produce a 'nice' collection of songs, but to track new releases on Spotify. I check all the new releases, but do not add them all to the playlist. I actually only select the best ones which I think might be of interest to some listeners/dancers/dj, which I would say only represent 10% to 20% of all new releases.

The way you should use this curated playlist, is, at your own speed, listen or skim through the new tracks, and maybe you will find some new gem which has just been released. The playlist sort order is by most recent first, to make it easy to see what's new.

I have been busy with other another project, namely tracking some Hip-Hop and R&B releases (over 6000 songs!), and producing some new DJ sets. Which means I am a bit late to update this release tracker, and I still have a couple of weeks of releases to catch up with.

The good news, is I have been learning some python programming, leveraging the spotify api, and writing a few programs to help track the new releases. This should help for the next updates.

Huge update this week. It took me a while to catch up with all the new releases. It might seem like I included too many, but in truth, I only kept around 15% of the songs!

Thanks, I have also seen your "Salsa Nueva 2021". I will check if there is anything I missed. What source do you use for new releases?

I wrote my own program in Python, leveraging Spotify API, parsing webpages on everynoise, and getting genre information from the hidden echonest API. And then, it is hours of listening to the songs, and only keep the decent ones.
