Hello…
I am from Singapore. I am new in this forum and it’s my first post here. I find the posts in this forum very healthy. Comments and disagreements are usually not taken personally and so far everything I have read sounds very constructive and encouraging. You people just give me the confidence in joining and posting here.
I am an On1 dancer dancing for 2-1/2 years. As more and more people in Singapore are picking up On2 (ET style), I have decided I want to learn this “new language”, so that I can “communicate” with them too. All the more for when I travel to other countries where people dance On2.
I have not taken any On2 classes. I have only been casually dancing it on the dancefloor, translating On1 moves into On2 timing. So far, I don’t have much problems leading moves as long as I keep counting in my head. But I have decided to take a beginner On2 class after the Malaysian Salsa Festival starting on the 4th August, because I really want to know the dance and not just being able to do it (turn patterns I mean). Till then, I have some questions for you guys to help me understand. Thanks in advance.
I had some chats with On2 dancers from abroad who have been to Singapore to dance. 2 of them said that wherever they go, they can tell who are the On1 convert to On2 dancers. They say that these people are doing On2 steps but the body is not moving to the On2 rhythm. Wow….I was like “this is deep man….”.
Another thing I want to ask, is that when ppl dance On2, do they start the 1 and 5 beat earlier and hold it a little longer (kinda syncopated)? If they do, is it a styling thing, to add to the groove? Or is it mandatory?
Looking forward to your replies. Thank you.
God bless you all,
Kelvin Yee
