Son Montuno
So I really liked that track DJ Ara put up in SoundCloud and I think it's a very cool way to share music on the internet. The interface reminds me of Audacity. I decided to give it a shot myself so I just posted four tracks I have recorded. Three are studio recordings. One is a live recording from a club in Queens NYC with Pedro Conga -- I decided to leave the 1:13 seconds of introduction, talking, joking, birthday wishes, instrument warm up, etc., in the beginning because I like that kind of thing -- a bit rough around the edges but a fun time. Some of you have heard the studio recordings before. Hope you enjoy!

Canción De Amor: http://soundcloud.com/groovetrumpet/canci-n-de-amor

Wow , you are one heck of a musician. Your solos are sick and you play with swing. Solid music all around , the female lead has a very nice voice and I like the take on Yo Soy Chambelon. I have to say though I really love "Cancion de Amor". Reminds me of "Mi Lindo Yambu". Is it an original track?

Thank you for sharing! I really enjoyed all of them, will have to look around for these recordings.

Thanks, Gipsy, and Mr.Afinque!

@ Mr.Afinque, coming from someone who knows "afinque" I will take your comments as high compliments. Re: "Canción De Amor", actually I've meant to ask Ray about the composer. The song is credited to Efrain Gonzalez but I don't know who he is and internet search doesn't reveal anything. I thought it was an old obscure song because Ray likes that kind of thing. The second coro is shared with the song Guaguancó de Amor by Pete "El Conde" Rodríguez... "Esto si que es un guaguancó de amor.."

thanks groovetpt

i already have the Nayibe album and i baught the "estamos gozando" album just now.

Awesome! Thank you.

Yeah, Equivocada is a great tune. I have a bunch of raw unedited live recordings, but I liked that one best because that gig was more like playing in someone's living room for a group of friends. A small intimate club with couches and tables -- some people dance, some just hang out and party. Lots of fun.

I also have a private live recording with Tito Gomez in his last performance in New York. He was in great vocal form and good spirits that night and I was shocked when he passed away unexpectedly a few months later in Colombia.

Tell me about it... Recently it took me almost a month to get a CD I ordered from Descarga... and I live less than ten miles away from them!! I called to check on it after a couple of weeks because I thought it was lost in the mail or something -- spoke to Bruce and he said he was behind with summer orders.

got both live recordings; they will be played in the show very soon.

CD's from Nayibe and Eddie Montalvo finally arrived yesterday. a few tracks from these will also be played in the next show.

Abayarde, would you like me to send you the Pedro Conga mp3's or are you good?

My wife and I were just listening to Tumba Tambo -- that's her favorite track from the new Montalvo. I love it, too.

btw, Abayarde, I will be playing with Ismael Rivera Jr. tonight, first in the Bronx and then later in New Jersey. I have never met him before or know how he is received in Puerto Rico, singing his fathers music. I'm looking forward to it and maybe I'll get a live recording out of it.

I'm good, thanks! I just recorded it while listening.

I'll add Tumba Tambó in the next playlist, also one of the Pedro Conga live songs.

Maelo Jr. has his up's and down's in the Salsa business. Sometimes he sings with Cortijo Jr. but never seen him performing as a regular there. When performing with "Los Hijos De Los Célebres" he was notorious because he arrived late in most venues.

it's a shame his cousin Moncho is doing a much better work preserving Ismael Rivera music.

If you manage to get this live, would love to hear it and play it in the show.

Well, it was fun playing those classic charts of Caras Lindas, Hola Que Tal, El Nazareno, MI Negrita Me Espera, Que Te Pasa a Ti, etc. - hope to get the chance to play them with Moncho some day.
