My Back!!

Oh...my gosh...I think I had a muscle in my back pulled by this really aggressive lead tonight. It's still throbbing. I dance rueda, and this one guy snatches more than he leads. Once, I got tossed right into another circle (I dance rueda). What can you do with leads that are too rough? Just tell them?

 Absolutely!!! It really gets me angry when leads are rough like that! Also, make the teacher aware of the guy's inappropiate way of leading. It needs to be addressed. Esa Negrita, I can't tell you how many "attacks" from rough leads that caused me to throw my back out! UGGHHH!!! That makes me angry! I hope you're not doing too bad and the pains subsides quickly! Bengay and aspirin really helps.

I've been through this minus the rueda. I guess it's easier to tell a regular dancing format partner that they're being a bit rough. Might be nice coming through the instructor, though.

As much of a rueda supporter as I am, I can STILL recall the horror that happened to me in one class (the only class I've ever walked out in my whole life)......

Some guys are so busy learning the moves without understanding the techniques. Instead of leading in correctly so followers get it, they simply yank them through the whole thing....ouch........

I had a muscle (between the shoulder blades on my back) pulled so badly that I was almost in tears........

.... :? and for some reasons, this happens more in rueda than other styles....

i know where u coming from:(
i had something similar last class.. which was 2 weeks ago..and i am still in pain and dont go to class cuz i simply cant move my arm Up:(

I think it happens in Rueda more because there is less scope to stop and throw in some basics if you're getting into trouble. If a move breaks down when your freestyling you can change it or slow it down over another 4 beats or whatever you want within the framework of the music. Rueda everyone does everything together or the wheel doesn't work, some people are better than others at fudging over mistakes others just seem to yank you to speed up the move and get back on time or whatever.

Speed is of the essence in Rueda - I'd agree that that's probably what leads to these guys pulling and pushing.

However, on the other hand, some ladies need it and that's why Peach's point about it begin a poor starting place to learn salsa is so right.

And some guys need it. I remember being pushed quite firmly in the right direction on a Dame Dos in my early days AND I've done the same. When the guy complained, I said "Move Faster".

Thanks for asking! As far as Salsa-back goes...I'm fine, but I was on planes all day yesterday and it's started hurting again. At least I've moved on to a new level...so everything should be ok again!

On the subject of bad backs (I'm a sufferer), yesterday I tried out one of those reclining armchairs that massages your shoulders, back and legs with all kinds of different programs.

It was absolute bliss!

Now I know what I want for xmas, although the £3100 price tag is a little off putting though.
