Musically good cha cha cha?

I started as a Casino dancer and love Timba. That's not to say I don't appreciate non-Cuban salsa but it's been hard getting into it because I find salsa romantica and salsa dura musically flat and uncomplex. There are a few exceptions but overall, I just don't have the urge to dance when I hear it and so I end up on the sidelines when it comes on. (My point isn't to insult the music, just to point out that it's not for me.)

Having said that, recently I've moved to Zurich and here it's much more mixed. I've started dancing and listening to other latin rythms but especially cha cha cha. I want to practice it at home but I've found most of the most of the cha cha cha from the internet is just plain terrible. Is there anyone who likes the cuban sound who can recommend some good songs for me? So far, I can say I like songs that are more old fashioned and sound like son montuno and despite my aversion to salsa dura, I like Tito Puente's Oye Como Va. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot give you any recommendations for cha cha music, but if you want to know the places in Zurich that play mostly timba i can give you directions...

On Spotify - there are two big Cha Cha Cha playlists. "Cuban Cha Cha Cha Top 100" and the just plain old "Cha Cha Cha Top 100". Worth a listen, you can find some decent newer songs and classic gems in there.

I encourage you to really dig back into Dura. I can only think you've missed the really good stuff, given you characterize it as uncomplex. Get to the jazzier end, and they'll match anything Timba is doing now.

As for Cha, easy to find, just hit up the expected crowd, Olivencia, Puente, Lebron Brothers, Joe Cuba, Colon and Blades, Roena, Sexteto la Playa, la corporacion latina .... Stevie Wonder ;) - Don't you worry bout a thing is a neat cha.

Go forth and discover!
