Musicality Test

OK, how musical are you?

Click the button and tell if the tunes are the same or different, fine tune your speakers and pay attention..

http:// jakemandell.com/tonedeaf/

I scored 83.3 %

69.4 % correct on the "tone deaf" test :? (about normal)
(Retake gave 72.2% correct :P)

On the second test I found that for 500 Hz, I can reliably differentiate two tones 1.5 Hz apart :P. (very good)
(Retake gave 1.35 Hz :P)

The rhythm test gave 84.0% correct :D. (outstanding performance)

75% in the Tone Deaf test (pretty poor - I thought my musical memory would have been slightly better than that)

PItch perception - I have an exceptional ear, apparently (although I did replay the pitches a lot). It seems that at 500Hz I can reliably differentiate two tones 0.525Hz apart.

And, finally, 80% in the rhythm test, which is apparently outstanding too.

So, let down by my musical memory in the first round.

a shocking 63.3%!

* hangs head in shame *

You should have a go at the rhythm test.

I did even worse at that. But I was drunk. Interestingly, in both tests I thought most pairs differed. Maybe my memory likes to embellish things. Especially when drunk.

I think you got the digits wrong ;), because

N / 36 can't be equal to 93.9 % (36 questions in the tone deaf test)
and
N / 25 can't be equal to 93.9 % (25 questions in the rhythm test)

...for N being an integer.

I thought most of them were different too. I was pleased with my tone differentiation result though, it'll help with my career as a bat.

meh 48 % for tonedeaf test
68 % for rythm test

wel these tests are wrong :O im a good dancer :P
wel mayby its my hearing im slightly deaf on the right side sow hen u speak there i cant understand what u say but still can hear some noise.

but its not end of the world :) i can still dance

your sense of pitch has nothing to do with your musicality or dancing...low scores may be a sign of old age though

Hmm, valid point but I am sure I didnt get my numbers wrong  maybe i got the .3 wrong

Took the tests in duplicate. I was making quicker decisions for the second trial.

Tone deaf = 75% first trial, 86.1% second trial

Pitch perception = 1.95 Hz first trial, 1.5 Hz second trial

Rhythm = 60% first trial, 56% second trial

So I have no natural ability with rhythm. I guess I better give up dancing now... 8)

88.9% Cool test. As much a test of short term memory and attention as pitch perception. In fact for some of those pitch perception isn't too useful since they are too low on the scale to tell apart and have weird harmonics added. Thanks for the link!

Interesting, I haven't found any correlation for pitch perception and age, do you have any sources for that?

I had 0.825 Hz for the pitch perception test, and 88 % for the rythm test, just too close to "Word-class performance" at 90 % not to try again some other day, I didn't even use all the "replay" opportunities. Hehe, I'm gonna be such a great dancer people'll think I'm black!
