Mother and son salsa musicians

Mimy Succar is a Peruvian-American singer and musician of Japanese descent. She began performing with salsa orchestras in the 90s, eventually joining the more famous group "Salsa con Clase", with which she toured the world.

She hooked me since I first heard her for her energy. She conveys a certain strength, and joy, she has a warm aura I find easy to connect with. Plus, I appreciate her colorful aesthetic.

Interestingly, her son Tony Succar is also a renowned Latin musician known as a promising young talent, and already a two-time Latin Grammy Award winner. I knew them separately and it took me a while to make the connection…

He is a percussionist, composer, bandleader and producer who has produced music for artists like Christina Aguilera, Alejandro Sanz, and Gloria Estefan, whom his mother also has sung with.

Together, they have done some collaborations, like the songs "Hoy Es Tu Dia" (Today is Your Day) and "SUKIYAKI, or “AEO”.

I know there are plenty of cases of relatives who make music, each with a successful career. But I can’t think of many mother-and-son links. As I said, I enjoyed their music separately before I realized their connection, which speaks of their talent, I think. That’s why I wanted to share them here

There have been a couple in NYC, as well as Father-daughter, Uncle-Niece/Nephew, brother-sister, etc.

NYC Trumpeter, Richie Viera is the son of Nadine Torres, who was heavily active in the 1970s, playing electric bass.

Francisco "Kako" Bastar, percussionist, and his mother Eugenia Ramos, a dancer/singer.

Corinne Lebron, singer, is the daughter of Angel Lebron, leader and bassist of the Lebron Brothers.

There fixed it for you ...
  • Mother and son salsa musicians
  • Mother and son, salsa musicians
(... nice artists and songs by the way ...)
The thing is that this can also be understood as Mother and son/salsa musicians. Since we had a mixup with the music style and my son in some thread, I always have to read twice to be sure what is meant. :)
