Granted it's casino, but I loved in particular the lead's body movement. I tried looking him up on YT, didn't find too many. In particular, IMO (I'm an intermediate dancer in on1, on2, and casino) his shoulder movement is amazing.


The lady is an amazing dancer and has many other videos.

Nice musical dancing. I like the first half better than the second. Granted it is professionally compiled. A lot of his mannerisms remind me of salsa dancers than casino, though he is clearly dancing casino. A good salsa dancer dancing casino will have more of this look.

I'd be happy looking like him no matter what style I danced.
 
Guys how do you define casino? From what I know/has been taught to me, that doesn't look like casino. That's cuban salsa. In casino you have the "anticipation", in this video the guy never does that. Maybe this has to do with how casino has been marketed in Europe, I don't know. Basically from what I know, in casino there is very little solo dancing, and there is this thing that teachers here call "anticipation". Meanwhile in salsa dancing there isn't this anticipation and generally you are more free. What do I miss?

With all that cutting, it would have been impossible to line up the song to what's actually happening on screen. So this is a fake dance, imo.

Yeah, I didn't exactly see anything I can think of as anticipation, maybe he did some sort of brief stop there or something? I did some some things that I haven't really seen in Cuban dancing in general during the 20 or so years I've been dancing casino.

The way they do the editing is dance a song many times, obviously, and then they take section that they like best, but the DO take from the section of the song where they actually were doing those moves, not randomly inserted stuff from different parts of the song. You can see that better in some of the other videos they've done where Lisandra is singing along with the song.

I personally would also prefer a non edited song , just an actual dance from start to finish, but I think they are very nice videos. Yanet Fuentes and Lisandra are the two dancers whose styles I prefer.

Casino is the Cuban name for Cuban salsa. In casino there isn't generally as much solo dancing as in linear, which has a thing about shines. But the gears in timba have usually been danced solo and the more that people dance to timbaton, the more separated dancing there is. Also, I would say that many of the male teachers are actually more rumba than casino dancers and thus rumba and orisha steps have been more heavily mixed into casino than before, so that has increased the solo dancing as well. IMO, that should be done to the extent that it matches the music, but many times today, you see people doing it just during normal sections of the song, i,e a regular marcha pattern, and not just during gears or actual rumba sections of the song (there are a fair number of songs with rumba mixed in musically as well).

Isn't Casino a dance than can be danced to non-son based music?
 
Cuban music from the 70s don't sound very son-based to me. I guess people danced Casino to this.


And Son Cubano to son music.

But modern Timba often seems to be very son-based and thus compared to old Los Van Van songs, are somewhat closer to "salsa".


Although people say there is no "Cuban salsa" I would argue the second song is more "Cuban salsa" than the first one.

I can dance casino to rock, but that is what they called the dance from the 50s and on. The term salsa came later, in the 70s as you know in reference to the music and then later the dance and then came the term Cuban salsa since Cubans didn't dance the way people in the US did.
