Hi All,

I am coming to London this Tuesday+Wednesday (27-28 November). Where are THE places to be for NY-On2 salsa these nights?

Hope to see you guys ;)
 
Sound has now closed for salsa; I don’t think the hardcore crowd really took to the place and the management of the venue started messing the promoters around.

Can't help much with the on2 question, but as mentioned there are always some on2 dancers at Bar Salsa on Wednesday.
 
Thanks for the tips guys! I have heard from others also now that Bar Salsa is where to go on Wed.

Now only Tuesday remains then. On2 is just a bonus, I do On1 also, so where is the best place for general cross-body salsa?

Please, I just cannot miss one salsa night in London! ;)
 
The only Central London place I’ve been to on a Tuesday apart from Sound (now closed) and Turnmills (also closed) is Abacus – the venue is fantastic, with one of the best floors in London.

It’s in the City (London’s financial district) but the social dancing has been a bit hit and miss for me – lots of city workers turn up for classes, a few drinks, a couple of not so serious dances and then head home. However I’ve heard on the grapevine that several of the Latin Dance Academy students (Super Mario and Susanna Montero’s term based school) turn up at Abacus after their classes at the L.D.A.

Not a strong recommendation as I haven’t been for six months, but you should find some good cross body dancing there – especially if the LDA crowd are still in attendance.

Ok Tuesdays as you will have seen from the above comments are not the best salsa night in London. Joe of the Latin Collective has just started a new night with on2 and on1 classes at a venue between Aldgate east and Whitechapel near Brick lane. His website is (very unusually) a few weeks out of date as it's a night that has recently moved venue, so you'll need to PM him to get the details, as I haven't got a copy of his last email anymore.

As for Wednesdays. I would concur that the only place you'll find an on2 dance is bar salsa. Joe runs that night too by the way! (No i'm not promoting the promoter - I've never even been introduced to him) If you want to find his salsaforums ID he posted on the scala page....

Okay, no fair. I blink for a seond and all these rapid posts get put up.

Unfortunately for you my friend, Tuesday nights in London has been a problem for a while. We do run classes on Tuesdays at a venue called The Lane Bar. We shifted there abruptly about 2 weeks ago when our previous venue got sold at the last minute. We get a crowd of about 40-50 students each week and about 10-12 for our on2 classes. The club is free so a number of them stay to dance and practice and the floor is good and spacious. But I would not say that there is a huge number of people for social dancing there. Sorry, afraid Wednesday is your best bet for that. But, if you wanted a class also then you are most welcome to join us. Details below. Just as an aside, we are looking into running a weekly dedicated on2 night at one of our other venues, (sorry no help to you)

Tuesdays - 7pm-12am
Clubnight: SALSA EAST CENTRAL
Venue: Café Suki, 12 Osborn St (Brick Lane), London E1 (1min from Algate East Tube)

Format:
7pm-7.20pm FREE ABS BEG
7.30pm-9.30pm Salsa classes at all levels (on1 and on2) then club dancing till 12am to the latest salsa, mambo, reggaeton & latin mix with Dj Faisal

Class Prices: £5 for 1 class (£3 NUS) /£8 for 2 (£4 NUS)
