Today the San Francisco Bay Area's band, The Pacific Mambo Orchestra, won the Grammy award for best Tropical Album of the year. Congratulations!
PMO started out playing Monday nights at Cafe Cocomo a couple of years ago. Attendance was meager for many months. When I ran out of dance partners I was content to just sit and listen to PMO. They stuck it out and worked hard to refine their sound. They obviously weren't making much money on those Monday nights. Eventually they worked to put out an album and I contributed to their Kickstarter campaign. It is great to see a local band get this kind of recognition. I will say that we have several other really good live bands in San Francisco as well as some excellent DJ's.
It is hard to see how a band like PMO could achieve the same success with Cafe Cocomo closing this year.
