Nice.

http:// www. prodland.us
There are other sister sites such as prodland.de which might be better for those in Europe etc.

Nice thread

This is a useful thread, thanks.

Is there another thread that lists salsa radio/Internet stations? I thought I remembered seeing it, but I can't find it right now; maybe I'm just using the wrong search terms.

And one I left out:

http://www.passiondiscs.co.uk

A UK based, CD spe c i a l i s t for 60s/70s salsa, mainly from the New York 'Salsa International' label but including some others.

HalfMan.

Anybody can fill me in on elWatusi quality? Better yet, did anybody make the comparison between these stores?

I don't why I'm not too comfortable just buying mp3s as opposed to buying CDs. I prefer CD way more than just the alternative, but I feel that soon this will be the only way to collect music.

I've been downloading mp3s on eMusic for the last few days (I just joined). Their specialty is supposedly stuff from small or indie labels. I've been amazed at some of the old Cuban EGREM albums that they have available for downloading. The prices are very
good.... for example for EGREM albums 49cents per song. You have to subscribe (I got an $11.99/month subscription plus they give you 2 dollars/month as a bonus and a one time $20 signup bonus). You can cancel your subscription at any time. The music is
without any digital copyright restrictions and you can do what you want to with it.

The mp3's seeem to be in the 200 kbps range of quality (Amazon gives you typically 320 kbps). I don't think many humans call tell
the difference .... I would prefer the higher bit rate but that is what it is.

So far eMusic has been a happy find for me.

bought from them before with no problems. 320kbps quality.

still have issues with all electronic format sellers because none of them includes any additional original art than the ultra tiny front cover. hope this can be included in the future so music history can be preserved properly.

bought a Leyo Peña's full album a few months ago. no art or info file was included. got luck finding both front and back covers at Google. do we have the need to cross our fingers to find info for something that we already paid?

ElWatusi also has a limited selection of albums in Flac format, which is a nicer alternative to MP3s.

MP3s have the advantage of instant delivery which is hard to resist !

but it doesnt make for much of a "collection"
you cant sit and admire an mp3 collection the way you can admire a shelf full of vinyl or CDs
its also, strictly speaking, is not legal to resell a mp3 collection or even to pass onto ones children.
also since it has no physical form you can easily forget you have it!

for those reasons i like to buy the CD or the vinyl when i can

but for DJing i need it right away, not two weeks later
i think it would be nice if a free download was included when you purchase a CD so one doesnt have to buy twice.

"Bio Ritmo" did this for one of their vinyl releases
