Ladies just standing around

Yesterday a party in another city, I spend quite some time looking at other dances. Partly this was due to bad air conditioning there. But partly it due to the ladies. I observed that a lot of ladies where standing around the dance floor and looking, but seldom one showed any signs of enjoying the music and wanting to dance.

So I would like to ask the ladies here: Why do quite some ladies just stand next to dancefloor and not move at all? And how about yourself, do you move to the music and show you want to dance?

And to my fellow leaders: How about your scene? Are the ladies mostly standing around without moving?

Well, that can happen because:
- some ladies are new to the place, so they just stand and look around;
- some are not enjoying the music that plays at the moment;
- some are just too shy to show that they like the music and want to move;
- some just don't want to dance;
- some are just thinking about something and forgot about music\dancing;
- some are dissappointed by smth;
- blah-blah-blah...

As for me, I don't move to music when I don't like the very song that is playing at the moment, or I'm just too tired, cause I've been dancing all night long and now just sitting to get my normal breath back, or I just not want to dance at all. There may be some other reasons, but I can't think of any right now :D
 
In my scene:
- a girl standing at the edge of the dancefloor and moving to the music is almost for sure asking to be invited to dance.
- a girl standing still at the edge of the dancefloor and not moving to the music is likely to accept a dance invitation.
- a girl sitting at the edge of the dancefloor may accept an invitation. She may be resting or waiting for someone in particular to dance with, so i, personally, only invite if eye contact is established or if there is no other free girl.
I can't remember when was the last time i got refused by a lady standing near the floor, regardless of whether she was moving to the music or not.

Most people that do not feel like dancing at the moment stay away from the edges of the dancefloor or make themselves look busy talking with friends or drinking etc. (at times, water bottles can be very useful even if you are not thirsty...).
There are always exceptions, especially with people new to the dance scene.
 
i mostly dance with peops i know or i get invited so i'm not really searching for dancepartners

if i'm next to the dancefloor i mostly always want a dance

if i'm not moving its' coz i'm tired/i don't like the song/ i'm watching someone dance/i'm stalking - trying to spot my next victim :)
 
Tritto that. If I'm not dancing I'm usually watching, and usually sitting down.

It doesn't actually mean that I don't want to dance, it's just that I get tired and I would prefer to rest between dances rather than standing up.

Luckily there are lots of guys who will come get me out of my chair. If I felt that sitting down was preventing me from getting asked I'd probably make more of an effort to stand up between dances.

I think many people don't particularly like salsa music though they may love the partnerwork, so if they do not have a partner they do not dance.

Also, I think many people feel self-conscious and think that if they dance by themselves everyone will look at them and criticize.

I'm standing most of the time, cuz if i sit balls of my feet would hurt :shock:
If a good song is playing... i will swing sway with the music, and if anyone want to ask me to dance that would be nice.
But at times i just want to rest and enjoy the music and watch ppl dance.
Usually dances will come from ppl that want to dance with me ;)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. Sometimes I see such a good performance, that I stop moving and listening to music and whatever... Just watch and enjoy... :D

While I like to watch a good dance as well, I can't help myself and you often see still move some body part due to the music. ;)
 
Thanks to everybody who answered my question. While I had already thought about some of the reasons you mentioned, the were others that were new to me.

If you are going to some venue where you are regular dancing, it's not a problem at all if someone is just standing. But if you are going to a venue, where you haven't been before, it can be a bit annoying if you mostly see ladies standing around not moving. So while I would appreciate if more ladies would move to the music, I won't mind asking anyway if I want to dance. :)

Huh, I'm not such good dancer, but if we ever meet up at some event, I'm gonna save you a dance. :D ;)

Ditto on the stalking...I spent the whole of the D.C. Congress doing the same thing! I don't think a guy asked me once--because I was too busy checking out who I wanted to dance with next!
 
Sometimes when I end up standing on the sides of the dancefloor looking disappointed by the whole thing, its usually because I wondering why I haven't been asked to dance more often!!

Gotta laugh at the stalking thing. I have done that soooo many times!
 
I gotta admit that when i Sit down (i never stand up unless i am taking pictures or interrupting some dances) its becuz i am stalking someone, trying to eye contact so subliminaly he'd come ask me for a dance

The "best" part of stalking is when you have your victim insight, the song is ending, you stand up, you wait, you proceed to run (yes run) across the dancefloor , but no some other girl gets there first, you are left standing in the middle of the floor like a flapping duck....you elegantly sidle off the floor. You acquire a new strategy, standing nearer him, but no this plan also fails as he moves during his dancing across the floor to the other side again....this time you're just going to have to rugby tackle anyone who gets in your way :) !!

Always work for me! i ALWAYS get wut i want ...i am serious eye contact , think of wut u want, ur goal....I WANT TO DANCE WITH THIS PERSON, alpha and theta will emit from ur brain and bam to his....and there u go, u dance !
