La Fantasia - Van Van 2014

Actually it's being released Friday when they have the final concert of their Cuban tour on the steps of the University of Havana. That's 1 day after their 45th anniversary. I really like what I've heard so far. I think this may be the CD that gets them out of their "not bad" rut and back onto my favorites playlist.

Nope I looked too. I am sure it's on sale in Cuba in hard copy today, but that doesn't do us much good. Since it seems to to be at digital seller yet, I guess we have to hope for Monday. Sometimes the time to digital market can be more than a month though. I hope not!

as a vanvanero i had one question, what will happen to LVV without Formell, after listening to some sample songs from the CD "La Fantasia" i have the answer to my question

La Fantasia is a tribute to Juan Formell and celebrates Los Van Van's 45 anniversary, most of the songs are by Juan Formell, also it have songs by Mandy, Roberton, Samuel, and others... the songs in this cd will take us to the 70s, 80s, and present... definitely a must to my personal music library

in my opinion, this cd could be collectors item in the future

Most people are saying it's the best CD since Llegó Van Van. I still need to revisit Chapeando before I can say that, since I like Chapeando a lot. It's definitely better than Arrasando and La maquinaria in my opinion.

Of 14 songs Formel composed five two of which are remakes of songs he composed in the 70s, so 3 new compositions by Formell on La Fantasía:
Me basta con pensar (remake)
Se vende
La fantasía (originally written for Luna Manzanares but after Formell died Samuel found the recording that Juan had made for Luna and decided to use it for the album)
Es mucho (remake)
El aparecido

Mandy, Robertón, Samuel, Juan Carlos Formell, Jorge Leleibre and Juan Ballestero also wrote compositions for the album.

Formell only arranged El aparecido. The other arrangements are by Samuel, Boris Luna, Jorge Leliebre and the "new" pianist "Pacho" Efraín Chibás

I think the band is going to do fine. I was worried, but I have to say that it seems Formell prepared Samuel well for taking over the band.

hehehe...... it's bad mathematics or bad grammar in my previous post... 5 songs by Formell is not most of the songs in the cd, when it has 14

because of the opinions i have read and the songs i have listen to, i think that La Fantasia could rivalry the grammy winner Llego Van Van and the other top albums, i dont have the cd yet and this is the opinion of a vanvanero

my favorite songs from this album are: Soy Añejo, Somos Diferentes, Me Basta Con Pensar, Soy La Mujer Que Quiero Ser, Todo Se Acabó, La Moda, No Me Digas Hello, Voy A Decirte Cosas and Soy Van Ván.
