Is this bad manners?

There are a couple of leaders that I really enjoy dancing with (i.e. I can really let myself go with them sort of thing!) and at the end of the dance I sometimes recognise the next song and suggest another dance. Is it too forward or not?
Would blokes prefer to do the asking? Do I hover just in case? or doesn't it matter? I find it hard to ask guys to dance when just standing around but it seems easier to ask for a second dance when you are on the dance floor
I sometimes have had 5 or more dances in a row and I'm sure its not always me begging!
What do you reckon? How much is enough? Whats the most you have danced in a night?
Advice please

I don't mind if followers ask for a first/second/third/fourth/fifth dance. In fact I love it. I have dance partners who I really get on well with, both dancing and socially. We just keep on dancing to song after song until either the music changes to something we don't like or we get bored and want to swap partners. At that point one of us just says politely "I'm just gunna have a few dances with other people and I'll catch you for a dance later."

The most I have danced is ALL night with the same partner (4 hours with breaks for drinks and sitting down). This takes a really good social connection and mutual understanding between you. i.e. that you are there for the same thing, otherwise things could become uncomfortable for one of you. You know what I mean? I find usually there has to be mutual attraction for this to occur or a complete lack of other good partners! hehe.

Oh thats great then! :D Most of us ladies were brought up thinking the men should do the asking and it has been quite hard to break the mould!

When I go out I love to dance for most of the time (to get a feel for different leaders and to get better at following). I read somewhere that if you have more than a couple of dances with someone then your intentions are for more than the dancing but I disagree. My love is for the dancing not the blokes! ;) Although some are nice!

What is the longest you have danced before getting a drink then?

Occasionally ladies will ask me to dance a second song - its all good. I don't think I have ever turned down the lady - and the majority of the time I'm glad she asked.

If a woman ask me for more than 3 dance in a row, or accept them from me, i understand that she is not "just" interested in my dancing skill.
Of course this happens rarely, and i do have specific partners who likes just dancing with me, and so do I.

But you be warned that the average man will wonder "why", and maybe make the wrong assumption (or the right one, depends what you think ^^)
The few times it has happened to me, i made the right one though.

I only usually dance more than 3 with people I dance regularly with. I don't think I would with a new dancer if I had suspicions it wasn't just the dancing.

Personally I never ask leaders for more than one dance at a time, but that's just me -- I usually aim to dance with as many leaders as possible, and besides I don't want to be seen to be hogging good, popular leaders (there are always too many women in my scene so good leaders are kept busy all night). I usually don't say no if the guy asks for another dance though, and in fact I take it as a compliment. So I think it's safe to assume guys feel the same about a girl asking for a repeat dance... It only gets awkward when you are asked for another dance when you haven't enjoyed the last dance as much as the asker .

Funny, I'm the opposite. With regulars I'm happy to have only one or two dances since I can dance with them any time. When I find good dancers I haven't seen before, I'm happy to dance 3-4 songs with them -- I may never have a chance to dance with them again so I want to get the most out of them! Whether or not they have non-dance motives doesn't worry me too much -- I can always say no if it turns out that way.

I usually stick to 1 dance, in some occasions I would ask for a second but very seldom, and if asked I will readily agree.

Even if I enjoy the dance so much, I relate to de desire to dance with other people, so having one dance is good for me, plus if I really enjoy it ( which is most of the time in a decent club), I generally ask the lady if we could have another dance later in the night. So quite often in a night I would dance with the same lady some 2 or 3 times, but through out the night

Glad u ask that question.

Azzey: I find usually there has to be mutual attraction for this to occur or a complete lack of other good partners! hehe. <--- it's both. I had the same experience. I dance with one guy the whole night, and YES there were NOT any other better dancers to dance with. So why waste haha!
It became very frequent and i ask him don't ya get bored dancing with me? and he's like NO. But my girl friends did say that it's like hogging cuz they want to dance with him as well. Same goes for my guy friends. It's so obvious that he won't let go of me. After one song he would still be holding my hands. I had to think of a way to slide off sometimes. No doubt i like dancing with him i still need a break. Lately it's been cool cuz i manage to just tell him, hey.. gonna catch a dance with who and who i'll be back k. Straight away he'll ask my girl friends to dance. Now that we're all happy ;)

Sometimes the DJ seamlessly merges the end of one record and the start of another – in these situations I might ask.

Alternatively if I’ve come on to the floor half way through the song, I might ask if we can stay on.

Other than that, only with regular partners.

I love the word "seamless" :D When a DJ cocks it up and there's a clunk moment when he's chopped the record or there's a complete disparity in styles - I'll be the one shouting "seamless" from the floor.

Its quite interesting reading all theses replies :D Certainly makes me think.
So now I have to think about "hogging" the best leaders! (Oh well, first come first served!)
Also there has been quite a few times that I get to the dance floor and realise the song is ending and so I keep smiling
But on the whole leaders don't seem to mind if asked for a couple and can always say no if they want to, right?

down side

Its true that when a girls ask for a nother dance im flater and since im a gentlement I rarely say no. But one time, there was this ladies I was dying to dance with since she rarely going out and she dance very well. But didnt have a chance, there was always someone asking for a dance on way to ask her to dance.

But on day I'll have a chance with her....... :D

I have the same opinion.

Personally, I find boring to dance for 2 consecutive songs with the same lady.

I definitely prefer to pick her up once again later, ma not that much (2 or 3 times per night), there are so many ladies around, and I love to dance with a stranger...

Probably at one of the congresses, I'm always exhausted by the time I get to the bar. So many good dancers..

In a club I can go for an hour before getting a drink, but usually I have one on hand to sip every few dances (while holding on to the girl so some other leader doesn't steal her away).

Hmm lets see I would NEVER say no if a female asks me to dance or asks for a second dance. I dance with anyone beacuse I enjoy it so much the fat, ugly, fat and ugly, and the good looking girls. Ive actually had better luck with the better looking girls I get turned down more by the ok looking ones. If a female wants to dance 1 ,2 5, 20 songs I dont really care ill keep going till she says thanks and leaves. I dont think ive ever danced more than 2 songs with a girl though becuse I dont know much yet so its becomes repetative and ive always had bad luck keeping girls interested after the 1st dance. But the day one of them asks me for another song ill just smile and def agree to it =D.

Sometimes I would just die for a drink but don't want to stop dancing :D The other day I had 2 hours of lessons and then started dancing straight afterwards. I didn't get a drink until just before i went home as I didn't want to be rude! I might do an azzey and take sips of water in between

Thanks gatoloco, its nice to know that us girls can have a dance no matter what we look like. After all its just great fun to dance and enjoy ourselves.

Sometimes I buy two bottles of water and park them at the opposite ends of the room so that I can run to one of them and take a quick sip after each dance. That way I can keep going for a couple of hours without a break.

No no no.
It is much more likely that she is thinking "phew, finally here is some decent lead, so I can enjoy now."

Why do men always interpret romantically? :?: :)
