Ideas Needed

hi guys I'm new on here, a few of my mates and I are considering forming a new club
the club would be based in a warehouse on the out skirts of a large town or city in the south of England.
we are all dancers who have other skills, I'm a property developer, we hope to have an internationally know salsa teacher, we also have a business manager and a site sound engineer,we have finance in place.

it would be purely a dance venue,we will not be seeking an alcohol license, and provide chilled water foc and put in a juice bar, plenty of free parking and very close to transportation links, and want to provide top class facilities at value for money, we have been offered several facilities free of charge from between 1 and 2 years,

we want to design a club for dancers
so would love to have your input, so how about you tell us you would love to have in a club?
and what you do not want to have in a club?

Great idea and best of luck to you.

Here are some things that I would like in a pure dancing club:

1) Good wooden floor - sprung if possible.
2) Good sound system - speak to a sound engineer about your requirements.
3) Cloak room facilities
4) Sitting areas, it is not just about dancing, we do need breaks in between.
5) Ability to control the lighting, atmosphere is important
6) Airconditioning
7) Parking space, and ease of transport.
8) Non-alcholoic bar, juices etc... I see no reason why no alcohol... it does help people relax

What sort of numbers would you need to make the finances work? Are there any other venues in simalar locations who pull in those numbers?

great toan, all of which we agree with, we have a sight sound engineer who intends to put in camera's
so any lessons can be played re played on elevated large screens to allow dancers to actually see which is being taught, using lights to show the beats,( allow new dancers to actually get the beat and move to it :) )

the finances are not the problem, the warehouse will be free for a period of time, and the services we intend to install, are in our stock, flooring, tv's cameras, even complete toilets from a good hotel which has recently been renovated

the main reason why no booze, is we can get change of use for a warehouse easily and quickly an alcoholic license will be a real pain. we see no reason why people can bring their own if they so wish

I have set up a different sort of club a couple of years ago, we expect 100 to 150 + most nights, with week ends much higher

the locations we are looking at, have several clubs, which constantly change venues every couple of months, their figures are about the same, we expect higher figures, our break even figures are very low, mainly wages for the first year

Make sure you book DJs with very good reputation for playing good music AND good variety - so that there is something for everybody. 2 rooms would be good if you expect enough people. For example Salsa Overdose (salsa + chacha) and Latin Fiesta (salsa+bachata+merengue+other). In that way you will attract different groups of dancers who don't necessarily go to the same venues. It is important to define who is the target audience of your party (hard-core mambo fans, cuban dancers, latino party dancers, casual dancers, all of the above, etc.) and start from there.

Shame about the new members not being able to PM, is there a reason for that?

Yes, we had to introduce this measures as some spammers started to abuse the private message function to directly target our users individually rather. And this way we can discourage any spammers from this way of contacting our members and either only post a spam thread, which we can easily take care of or even avoid the forum at all.

Now, please switch back to the standard schedule of this thread.
