Hi , what is status of dancing in your place now ?

I imagine it would be similar to here. But I'm not cheap. I am willing to give out free dances though. But if the queues are as long as they say, I might eventually have to start charging for dances too.

Also better music and more skilled followers (esp who only dance salsa and sneer at bachata). And if you are paid for giving English lessons while dancing, I don't know what can be a better definition of being in heaven :)

I have an older gentlemen friend, a Florida native, who after retiring regularly traveled to Ukraine to teach English, mostly to younger Ukrainian girls. He liked it so much he kept going and kept overstaying his visa. He was giving free lessons because he didn't need the money and had been living off his U.S. pension.

The way he was describing it sounded like he had found a slice of heaven. I can't say I'd do the same because I need the money and I have a feeling teaching rates in Ukraine/Russia would be far below what I'd be willing to accept :P

But imagine how your life would be affected: always in need for dark glasses and wig to prevent screaming girls run after you. You can ask any pop-star, this can be really a burden!

Yep, and when I go dancing, I keep the dark sunglasses on to cement my status as the alpha dog.

Fringe benefits?? May have been way better than the monetary ones ;)

Surely he was not a true Florida native. Southern US accents are not so popular. He had to have moved there from somewhere up north.

Didn't want to post a new thread about this... but curious how often people went dancing this year?

Me... I went dancing 20 times in 2021. All between May-November. I don't think I'll dance again until 2022.

This was all done locally. I did not travel.

So... not bad. Not great. But could have been worse.

At least I know definitively that my dance skills won't deteriorate if I spend lots of time off in between dancing.
I would say back to normal for me which is 1-2 times per week maximum in both Cali Colombia and south Florida. This is post vaccination in April 2021.
I went to two congresses. We went one night to the Miami Salsa Congress in early July where I think I got infected based on how my immune system acted up afterwards (sore throat, fatigue that lasted for 8 hours). Also went to the mini congress in Chicago end of July... no issues.

There is a funny situation: We walk out of the house with a mask, take a taxi in Cali with a mask. Then take it off when we enter the dance venue and dance. Same deal in Florida, we walk out of the condo with a mask, wear it in the elevator, take it off outside, drive to the venue, dance, return, then put on the mask in the elevator.

Yeah, those empty elevators, personal taxis and condo corridors are surely huge at risk locations.

Dancing in jam packed congress centres with full-contact body-on-body action... not so much.
