Has your local salsa scene contracted over the last few years?

NY2/PWR 2 have been covered extensively on the forum but I've actually heard the On2 style danced in San Fran described as west coast On2,(Salsamania ,Jhon and Liz and Alma Latina), this was from a follow who has extensive knowledge of the innner workings of NY On2 , I'm assuming she meant, timing, turn patterns etc. But that's a different thread. I am sure it's only a matter of time when someone will come up with a European On2 style if it hasn't been done already. For me dancing On2 is about hitting the 2 and the 6!!!

There were some 400-500 people* at the spring salsa explosion social last Saturday. The clubs had a decent turnout as well. Med Cruise Cafe with K-Libre 24 salsa band draws from a different set than the people who go to the salsa explosion. *they weren't all there at the same time - so plenty of room to dance for most of the time in the hotel ballroom.

On March 21 there will be Crooked Pint (I plan to go there), Loring and Paraiso. All 3 will be well attended - they each draw from a different crowd. If SDS has their Club Salsero social on the same Friday, that will be the slow venue.

Sorry dude!!!!Hope you're enjoying your newfound on2 skills. This on2 debate, really gets people going, so I trying to use humor to calm things down!!!Ah but yes mustn't joke, this stuff is serious business;):p:D

Ohh please!! John and Salsamania style is their own. It is not how the rest of SF dances. Most Salsamania leads are total pattern monkeys.

Are you calling Rodney a pattern monkey? How do you know how the rest of SF dances? Are you telling me that people in SF dance with the NY vibe? This is coming from someone who didn't know who Alien Ramirez was when she's only the best female salsa dancer in the world and lived or used up until recently in the state of California..Dude get with the program!!!

The " best " in the world ???. Unless you have seen the ALL the female dancers, how can this statement be possibly true ??.At any given time, there appears to be several claimants.
And, please dont tell me she "won " a world championship . If she did, that makes her the best that entered.
Its equivalent to the Miss world comp.

IMHO, and it has nothing to do with world championships...they're meaningless as far as I am concerned,and yes I have seen most , if not nearly all of the top female salsa dancers(linear and non-linear) and based on her skill level, her musicality, her sabor, her flava,IMHO I think she is the best in the world ..there I said it

So.. let me understand this.. you have been to ALL of europe, Asia, Africa South and North America, and the many islands , and watched , the best to be seen ?...

Your opinion, is no more valid than 1000s who may dis-agree. My bet is Ive seen considerably more dancers, and danced with more ladies , who would be on mosts top lists , but I, would hesitate to give ANYone that title..

IF you say she is the best YOU have seen, then that, probably is closer to some truth.

And, your criteria ,is possibly different than mine .

I have been to Europe, Asia, Africas and Americas and many, many, many islands and watched, and ate, and drank, and I can tell you now... Lo and behold, there is the best dancer in the world on the every dance floor every night. Embrace it, i mean, embrace her! I don't know her name, but I will dance with her tonight.

So where are the 1000's who may disagree? Who are these considerbaly more dancers and better dancers you have danced with? we are talking salsa/mambo here, 2014!!!,We are talking dancers, who judging by their popularity at Congress all over the world,that's the conclusion I and a lot of other people came to!!!, Who would you put up against her based on your criteria? Anyway I have already stated why I think she is the best, we are on a forum,so other people are quite welcome to critique her, but constructively, not just 1000's may disagree, if you're one of the 1,000's from all parts of the world and always wanted to chime in on salsa forums, now is your chance.....tell me why you think there is someone better than Alien Ramirez in the salsa/mmbo world!!! One last point, you pooh poohed the idea that she did win a world champoinship many times, she was voted that way by her peers, it would be like saying that Lionel Messi, is not the best footballer in the world, coz you saw some guy play well in outer Mongolia, and we hadn't heard about him.

Unfortunately, on March 21 there will be Club Salsero. We will just hope they will go to Crooked Pint after.

Salsa Explosion always is well attended but they don't put enough dance floor to accommodate the number of dancers they invite :-(

I have no idea how she dances with a partner ( do you ? ) IF you are making judgement on only appearances, then I can tell you, looking and " feeling " do not always pan out .

Anyway, thats not really the point.

There cannot be a definitive answer to who is the best at ANYthing, until all the contenders are judged on the SAME floor dancing to the same music. THATS what comps do .
And ,there have been several of those ,held within the same year , and all were making the same claims . Now ,IF you stated "best " performer, then that, may hold more than a grain of truth.

All else beyond that , is personal opinion to which you and I are both entitled. .

As to football, you didnt get that correct. On the last vote ,Ronaldo just got named OVER Messi .
