Hamburg Salsa Festival 2008 Sam & Cici

Hi Dahvee!

Wow, it _really_ is surprising what ends up on youtube these days...
This was a small session that I had with dj Sam and dj Mango on Saturday afternoon.
We were just sitting there playing songs for each other, because after all, that
is what makes us djs crazy, to listen to songs and talk about music and musicians!

This was one song I played. I have this on vinyl, but at this time we were playing songs from each other's Ipods.

This song is called "Haciendo Coco" from a mexican group called "Los Yimbola Combo". The album is called "Mas Salsa con Los Yimbola Combo" and was released on the Gas records label in 1977. I think this was only released in Mexico and not distributed in other countries. I have at least not seen other pressings of this record.

So, unfortunately it is tricky to get hold of this album as I don't think it was ever on cd. This is also one of the most sought after albums from this little known group Los Yimbola Combo. Have a look at my homepage for more information on rare but cool albums and artists.

I never thought our session at the Hamburg Salsa Festival was recorded, let alone put up on youtube! But we had some great fun!

Also, this was a song Sam had not heard before or danced to before. This dance was his
first time to this song, which I think is a great testament to how good a dancer he and Cici are. Also, the song is very danceable.

Terence, I disagree that this song has timing changes. I just counted all through the song and the clave remains the same all the way. It has many great breaks to play with, something which I consider _essential_ for a great salsa tune. Is that what you were refering to?

Take care and enjoy,

Thanks DJ Guachi Guaro.

That is an awesome track!

How can you listen to a track like this and not want to dance!

Plus, for me personally, being of Mexican descent, up until now I wasn't aware of any Mexican salsa groups. COOOL...

Hi Guachi

Very good song and it is a pleasure to see my friend sam dancing on your tune. He said to me that he had really appreciated your work and I am not suppri because I know the time and the money which you put in the search of lp. Good work, I hope to have the occasion to mix in your sides a day.

Hi El Errante!

Thanks for the kind words. I also have the same respect for the work you guys put in for this music. Salsa is alive and kicking in France!

I also hope our paths cross some time in the future. It would be really great to meet you and a pleasure to mix beside you.

- Guachi
