going Cuban in London

Hey folks,

I will be visiting London shortly for an extended (April 7 to 11 precisely) weekend and, of course, want to go dancing once or twice. Which places can you recommend to go to on Friday or Saturday evening/night, where there is some Cuban dancing going on. Live music would be great, but it's no must.

Thanks a lot in advance

I'm not a big Cuban fan but the most well known Cuban night is at a place called tito's which is very close to London Bridge.

Shame you are not here this weekend - you are missing the Afro-Cuban London Congress!

The twice-monthly Salsa Fusion night (near Great Portland Street station) has a good Cuban room (confusingly called the fusion room), but you are coming on the wrong weekend for that too... :(

I'm totally surprised to see some answers here, as I didn't receive any e-mail notifications.

Tito's looks quite nice. I guess I'll be there this Friday, so watch out London Salseras. :-)

Be aware that Tito's pure cuban night is only once a month, I think the last Friday.
The other weeks, it's cuban until 10.30/11.00 after the rueda class only. After that it's "cumbia" and latin beats.
For cuban music you have Garage as mention above, the forge in Camden with live music and Ronnie Scott with live music as well.

For saturday, El Bembe will play a bit of cuban mixed with mambo, cumbia and bachata.

Thanks to both of you. I was able to read MacMoto's response before I went out yesterday. I decided for Tito anyway after I called there to ensure that there really is some Salsa. The guy at the phone seemed almost upset when he told me that the Salsa party has nothing to do with his restaurant. ☺

It is just a club below the restaurant. So I was there watching the rueda class and wondered why everybody left afterwards. Then I realised that the main floor was one more level downstairs. There was Salsa being played all night long, with the occasional Bachata and Merengue songs in between.

Partly it was really crowded with much too much men there and the music was on average a bit fast for my taste. But I managed to get my fair share of fun. I hope one dance is the standard here, as a lot of the women did only one dance (for most cases: unfortunately) with me.

I will check out Uchima's clues later.

.

Interesting! So they still play merengue in London salsa nights? Very interesting!
