Son Montuno
OK so right after the peña with Suave Caribe we went to download the video onto a computer (a stationary with 256 MB RAM - did not go so well). There was a dance group rehearsing in the building so we filmed a little of that as well. Last time I was in Guantanamo I only saw Tumba Francesa so it was cool to see something new. A few things I find interesting are the similarities and differences both in the dance and the music with the Afro-Cuban dances. Also once again we see a little kid dancing and he is quite good. I like how in Cuba they take kids seriously and kids take themselves seriously. Of course there are children's dance groups and such, but it's nice to see a child dancing with the adults and being treated just like one of the dance group members. Probably he is the child of one of the members, but I like how kids and adults are not segregated into generational groups the way we do here. And the kid also takes his dancing seriously. When he quits dancing he goes to the back of the room and sort of plays around but still paying attention to the music. So for your viewing pleasure.
