Festival and Travel Planner 2025

Btw. Mauri played a great set on a Zurich on2 party last year. I know because at the end I thanked him and asked for his name. Well possible he plays mediocre mainstream at other events.
He knows salsa and has had good sets. Especially, if he's sober. But overall he knows how bad music he puts on. He's been outspoken about it like in the microphone in front of hundreds of people. All **** he's been speaking in the mic I can't quote due to censorship on forums.

I think I only heard Mauri play once and it was at the old Amsterdam Salsa Congress. I remember he played a song and I was thinking to myself, WTF. I don't remember the song, but it is one of those songs that makes me want to bum rush the DJ both and start a riot.

Unless you count this event they're hosting in July with Frankie Martinez and Bersy Cortez in Budapest
Oh, Bersy is coming as well? I have to think new...
I just found out Bersy is also coming to Stuttgart Marathon one weekend later, so no need for me to take the airplane. She never had a chance to dance with me, I think it's just fair to her to change that. ;)

Yeah, that might have been right there during his definitely no-so-sober times. I remember some horrible sets of Mauri's, but yes, he knows his stuff and can also deliver an amazing set. I mostly liked his sets when he played at Magic Mambo Zurich in 2024.

I'm planning to attend the Berlin Salsa Congress in August and was thinking of checking out another city or congress while I'm in Europe. Does anyone have recommendations for good linear salsa festivals the weekend before or after Berlin? Or even suggestions for European cities with a strong salsa scene worth visiting? Thanks.

Last year this Hamburg event was rather poorly attended and pretty follower-heavy. Just as a warning, in case someone considers making major plans based on this. It wasn't horrible overall, but wouldn't drive long-distance, let alone fly, for this.

Ah, sorry just realized that was probably referring to the Salsa Weekend Hamburg on August 22-24 https://www.hamburgsalsaweekend.com/ , not the SBK event August 8-10 https://www.sbk-gala.de/programm
I don't have any intel on the former, I think it might even happen for the first time on this date... My somewhat not-so-positive statement was about the SBK event.

Is this a game changer for Amsterdam?

So the social dance pass is really the party pass (unrestricted social dancing).

How many will buy party pass that only is for night time dancing? Why not then have party pass that is only for day time social dancing. Day time is misnomer. It is afternoon social dancing - 3 extra hours than afternoon dancing at other congresses.

P.S. the new trend in social media posts to put all kinds of icons (instead of bullets) to draw attention or highlight, makes readability harder.

Looks like a copy paste of organizer’s post to me. It will take more time to prompt llm to create a post with that content language than to draft one yourself quickly. Or they started with llm and finished editing manually.

Seems like a move in the right direction. I actually could go for a daytime only pass and skip the evenings, especially if it were Friday, Sat and Sunday at the hotel in comfortable conditions. I might start earlier and end earlier though if I had a choice.

I can think of some, why not?... I do like showing up late for social dancing. Even with this aging scene, there're still crowds who do pre-partying (or so I heard  ), others will just meet up with friends and get some drinks maybe. It's a whole other point, however, that 150€ regular, though still pretty early bird price appears quite outrageous to me, for social dancing only... But the event was absolutely great for me, personally, last year, so any improvement probably will just make it even better.

I can’t remember now. The party pass before Covid in EU used to be between €100 to €120 I think. May be PISC was higher. I can’t remember how much I paid for PISC and Magic in 22/23. It was at least €110 or thereabouts.

With inflation, I am not surprised the party pass are €150. SF SBK had been charging $180 for the party pass for last two years.

All these are prices when buying a week or month prior. If you are able to buy earlier, the prices are ofcourse lower.
