I know that such discussion has been made in the past:

For the longest time, I didn't hear much of those English remixed into salsa songs, so I simply thought that no-one really likes hearing them anymore.

Lately, I went to a Latin Festival and I heard many new remixed song, specially from Kenny G..... I am totally impressed.

Shall we start another thread for salsa remix song say from 2008.

I would like to start by contributing the following:

1) So sick of love song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdBikgVjJ14)

2) ABC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHVOXh8HxFI)

3) Mas Que Nada (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms6GxMpTnX8)

4) Fantasy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-mqWWXQrWo)

5) Stairways to Heaven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p48QahnOyIQ)

Very popular with the 'I play exactly the same tunes - most of which are English language - every time I DJ' school of DJing, which is very common in the Midlands.

I could give a long list of extremely famous and danceable classic salsa tunes I've never heard played at a salsa night, yet I've heard that tune 100s of times.

I'll occasionally play a remix or cover at our school's socials - usually when we have a lot of beginners on the floor (our monthly socials will usually start with a beginner class.) I've found that this will sometimes keep more of the first timers on the floor as it's something that is within their comfort zone. This is more the exception than the rule as I've found the majority of remixes in English aren't that well done.

love / hate that ABC version!

It always struck me as really clavey anyway but didn't see how it could be salsafied without destroying it. After hearing that, I still don't.

But it's so damn cute!

Mas Que Nada hardly qualifies as English/Pop, being Portuguese/Latin already.

Stairway sounds like it's possibly quite good, but I hate the song thoroughly enough that after 15 seconds I can't be bothered to listen to it :-)

Heard the worst one ever the other day

Michael Jackson : beat it

Salsified ...

But it was not a remix it was rewritten in spanish
As i have not managed to erase it totally from my memory
I think the chorus was saying "sigue"

OK here we go. Hello the salsa version by Mandinga from Romania. I know one of the trombonists. He used to be with Maykel Blanco. He has also started working out like crazy, developed quite a body and started a modeling career. I never listen to the radio so I don't really know the original version. Whatever - here it is. I expect you people in areas that play salsa in English have already heard this a lot.

Above post is 5 years old, and it is still getting rinsed by certain DJs I believe.

Can someone please turn that autotune off?

Salsa songs can easily get "lifeless" and "robotic" anyways. No need to make it worse with effects.

Ladies and gentlemen get ready! The new Manolito album has a cover of ....wait for it....."How deep is your love" by the Bee Gees :) jajajajaja

Fantasy is quite good for a Salsa cover. I love Earth Wind and Fire, and this does it justice.
The same can't be said about Love Song. I love The Cure and this Cover Song almost makes me hate Salsa lol. Although not as much as Gangam Style (bachata remix) annoys me and Lady in Red makes me Hate kizomba (more so than usual, if that's possible).

Haha, what is the title of the track? :O
It's the same. they are singing in English :) It's actually not bad singing although with a Spanish accent - but you know - I'm not a cover fan, not a pop to salsa fan and not a fan of salsa in English so three strikes for me. But I suppose it might be a big hit with English non-Spanish speaking dancers

But there is another recent album by Omar eel Místico featuring Manolito with a cover of Raindrops keep falling on my head and it's called Cry Not For Me according to the MP3 I have :)

Not a fan of salsa covers in English, and pop myself, but I was too curious.

I can't find the album on iTunes.
*I did find Cry not for Me (before asking you, tbh), though!
