A few months back I contacted the music critic at the " Times " asking why he only reviewed Classical and Pop music, stating that, latin music in general, and Salsa in particular, is a world wide market.

He mailed a curt response to the effect it would not be of any interest to the readers ( does the word arrogance come to mind ? ) .

Extrapolating that thought to radio, I also have tried to get a local station to provide me with just 30 mins weekly.. time constraints was the answer ( plenty of time though for"Pop " ! ) .

I do realise major markets with large latino Pop. get air time, but, this music has a very diverse culture and someone seems to be missing the" boat "in the Radio broadcast market.. thoughts ?.

P.S. the word " boat " just struck a chord ( no pun ).. many yrs a go, off the coast of the UK, a pirate radio station emerged which turned out to be the flagship ( literally ! ) of Pop music.. its DJs became pioneers in the industry... anyone got a LARGE boat and antenna they are not using ?

Don't know about radio. Did you only contact the Times? I wonder if the Guardian or Independent might respond differently.

Yes, Guardian might be more receptive as they have done a few articles on Cali and salsa:

What about offering to review something yourself? That would probably be the way to go about it and there are opportunities to do this on the websites as well as in the papers.

Let me know if you need some advice on how to go about this as I have freelanced for both Gdn and Indy.

That was my intention .

The Web does not reach the audience I was trying to target. Im interested in those that may have a curiosity factor, and seldom if ever visit these types of sites ( my own students dont even bother ) .

I meant the papers' websites ie stuff that's not published in the print version. Obv more and more people are reading the paper online now.

Let me know if you want any help with pitching to an editor.
