Dancing in Paris

Next Sunday (Sun 29 Mar 2009) the O'Sullivans Sunday Salsa party will begin in the afternoon with (14h-16h) (class with Sève) and (16h-2h) (DJ Gabriel, DJ Willy).
(10€) (class, party, one drink).

This is planned as monthly (F) starting (Sun 22 Feb 2009):
Non weekly Salsa dance parties (dates) 2008-2009.

On other Sundays the schedule is class (19h30-21h30) and party (21h30-~2h).

O'Sullivans (92 boulevard de Clichy 75018 Paris) (metro "Blanche") (next to the "Moulin Rouge") (Night bus N01 N02 stop "Blanche" N15 stop "Place de Clichy").

O'Sullivans Sunday Salsa party April 2009 schedule:

(w31) Sun 05 Apr 2009 (19h30, 21h30-2h)

It will take place on Monday 13 April 2009 instead of Sunday 12 April 2009, I guess this is because Monday 13 April 2009 is a Holiday (Easter Monday) (Lundi de Pâques).

The monthly extended (with afternoon) one will be on Sun 19 Apr 2009.

This Sunday (Sun 05 Apr 2009) you get a Salsa Zouk party at the Barrio Latino, admission (15€) (+ (2€) per item after 19h30), (14h-15h30) (class with David Lartist, Caméla, Mab, Ange, Flo), (15h30-2h) (DJ Pierre, DJ Steeve), (21h) (Zouk concert with Thierry Cham).

On other Sundays the schedule is class (14h..) and party (15h or 15h30-19h30).

The Tuesday "Agua" Salsa Party (by Leon Rose and Noémie Millon on the Alizé boat) doesn't take place tonight (Tue 21 Apr 2009).

The Balajo Thursday Salsa party (by David Lartist, Mike and Relle) will end at 1am tonight (Thu 30 Apr 2009) (night before May 1st) and will not take place next week (Thu 7 May 2009) (night before 8 May).

The O'Sullivans Sunday Salsa party will not take place next Sunday (Sun 31 May 2009), but the following day (Mon 01 Jun 2009).

Alias... you still here? What's your take on Tuesday nights? Aqua or Balajo? :P

Ooops, we're already Tuesday, as I knew you were still in Paris this Tuesday I had the intention to write more about these parties (even more as for once there is a choice between two "salsa portoricaine" parties), but time went on … and I don't have much time today, so here's a quick answer.

The Balajo Tuesday Salsa Party is now advertised as "La soirée Salsa des débutants et plus …" ("The Salsa party belonging to Beginners and up …") and there was once a month a party announced as dedicated to Beginners, official schedule is now an 1h30 (20h-21h30) class for beginners and a 45' (21h30-22h15) class for intermediates, so it seems to target beginners.

So my take is "Agua" (as I can go to the Balajo on Thursday, and I somehow like this Alizé Boat salsa party).

The Tuesday "Agua" Salsa Party takes place on the Alizé Boat (docked at Port de la Rapée), you have access to a "salsa portoricaine" party on Deck 0 and a "salsa cubaine" party on Deck -1 (downstairs) (free access soft drink available there).
Deck 0 (20h Intro to On1 with Noémie, 20h Bachata or Cha cha cha (or …) with Leon Rose, 21h Beg On1 with Noémie, 21h Inter On1 with Leon Rose) then (22h-2h) (DJ Melka) (with also on some tracks two musicians playing live overlaying the records, it's ok) (note: DJ Melka announces some Salsa Romantica sets, and some may not like this kind of music), while on Deck -1 (20h B, 21h BI Casino class) then (22h-2h) (DJ).
Deck 0 is a bit smaller but you have a view on the outside through transparent "doors" windows on both sides (with the Seine River on one side and the dock on the other side) and you can see the daylight if there is, while Deck -1 is more spacious.

I would like to give more info, or to write it better, but I don't have any time left.

Note that the two parties are not too far away (check map) (bus91 or Night Bus N01 N02, metro), so in case of emergency (one doesn't like one party) one can "run" from one to the other.

Alias, you saved my salsa impression of Paris. I was verrrrry close to going to Balajo because they stayed open until metro opening hours and would have saved me a costly cab ride home. Based on your info I went to Agua instead. And I ended up having the BEST dance night of my trip there. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Alias, you saved my salsa impression of Paris. …. Based on your info I went to Agua instead. And I ended up having the BEST dance night of my trip there. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad you had a good time there and left Paris on a good Salsa impression.

I was verrrrry close to going to Balajo because they stayed open until metro opening hours and would have saved me a costly cab ride home.

On Tuesday the Balajo closes at 2am (on Thursday the Salsa party ends around 2am (may vary) but is continued by a discotheque party until 4am or 5am), and the Alizé party ends at 2am.

The last metro train starts around 0:45 (or 1:45 on Friday and Saturday night) so one gets it at a station between 0:45 and around 1:15 am (or 1:45 and 2:15), the first metro train starts at 5:30 am so one gets it at a station between 5:30 and around 6 am, one can check the schedules at (www.ratp.info/orienter/horaires_metro1.php).

So depending on where "home" is (or before choosing "home"), one may have a look at the Noctilien Night Bus, I only give Night Bus line number and station for each party (for conciseness) so for bus route and schedule one may search for "noctilien" on the web or look at (www.ratp.info/touristes/) (www.ratp.info/orienter/) from RATP web site, or ask here.

The 4th Edition of the Yambu and Friends Paris Mambo Festival will take place on (Fri 4, Sat 5, Sun 6) June 2010, announced Kalix.

Update (posted on 2010-03-27):
It will not take place in 2010 as they didn't find an affordable venue, they will now focus on 2011, so may be (3, 4, 5) June 2011.

In summer time you can sometimes dance Salsa (or Argentine Tango, Rock, Swing, …) outside on the banks of the Seine river at "Quai St Bernard" "Jardin Tino Rossi" (between "Pont de Sully" and "Pont d'Austerlitz") in one of the areas (there is an "esplanade" and four small "amphitheatres"), it depends on a schedule and those who put on and DJ, and also the weather (so it may be last minute news).

You may try (F) for news about Salsa (note that the music may be for Casino or Mambo dancers (or both alternately) so check the DJs).

A special authorization is needed and usually granted each summer, so this year it begins on Sunday 14 June 2009, and a Salsa party took place that Sunday.

This place and dance event is known to the dancers as "Les Quais" or "Quais de Seine" (however some people misuse this name to promote their own private parties so beware).

The Tuesday "Agua" Salsa Party (by Leon Rose and Noémie Millon on the Alizé boat) doesn't take place tonight (Tue 07 Jul 2009).

Salut, ca va!?

I am beyond excited to be visiting Paris eary September,
unfortunately it's only Tuesday till Friday but it looks like there are a few mid-week nights that could give me my fix.

Alias, thank you very much for all the links and the information, I have just started working my way through it!

The ideal night would be Thursday so let's see...

Well, that was quick:
Bateau Alize on Tuesday and Le Balajo on Thursday!

I will check nearer the time to see if there is a one-off party
on that week but other than that I think je suis arrivee ;)
Just need to print out maps and public transport details.

Merci beaucoup, Alias!
