Dance Schools Manhattan

Can anyone reccomend good dance studios /classes in Manhatten for both on1 and on2. I have a friend recently moved out there...

It would be helpful if you could give more details about your friend, such as how long s/he has been dancing on1 or on2, is s/he looking for beginner or more advanced level classes, etc.? Or maybe s/he can post here directly? :)

Technically I would say she's a good beginner/early improver, I think she would prefer to continue on1 rather than on2 (although being in the area she is it would make more sense to go on2 but anywaaay I figured I can give her an option for both and let her decide)

There are few on1 dance schools in NY, and my guess is that once she goes social dancing she will at some point decide she wants to learn on2. If she wants to continue to dance on1 exclusively, she will need to communicate this to each leader she dances with at the “mainstream” socials, otherwise most will assume she dances on2.

I have tried an on1 studio here and cannot recommend it. There is also Salsa Fever in Brooklyn, but no idea about what they are like.

With regard to on2 schools, others on SF have recommended Santo Rico, Baila Society, and Dance On 2. I do not have experience with beginner-level classes in NY (I have mostly taken intermediate/advanced classes at some of the schools) so I cannot recommend one from direct experience.

If she decides to go the on2 route, she should also try Frankie’s and Eddie Torres’ classes.

Their addresses should be easy to find online, feel free to PM me if your friend needs any other info, I'm happy to go do some "research", and happy to chat to her directly too. I am in the process of trying out more schools myself.
