Cute Story and Great Achievement per me

So, I am in this group called Azucar. It is a rueda de casino group that performs and teaches students of Florida State University pro bono. (I am one of the students they teach.) This past Saturday we were raising money via a car wash at a restaurant called Chili's. It was a hot day and we weren't getting many cars because of our location. Some of us were a little bored because there was more of us to do the work than there was work to be done. So a couple of leads and a follow grabbed me and drug me to the front of the rest. with a cd player. They turned the music on, threw a hat by the cd player, and we began dancing for tips in our flip-flops (sandals without backs.)
Apparently people liked us because we just kept getting tips. Not sure how much because I never asked but it was a great experience! (haha I'm not even sure if it was legal here...hahahha I hope it was...)
Anyway, I'm not really sure what did it but ever since then I have had a problem of mine corrected. Before I was having trouble on my right (pivot) turn...I had been practicing as much as I possibly could to get it right. Had help from three instructors of different groups and studios...couldn't get it down. I would lose my balance at the end of the turn and created so many problems unless I had a super great lead. Now!!!! I don't have the problem. I'd have to say that my turn is PERFECTO!!!! Don't know exactly what did it, but I'm glad we danced for tips in 100 degree humid weather with no shade in our flip flops on that day.

:-)

Lol, congrats! You should have one of the local instructors make up a rueda call where you all pick up the advertisement posters and wave it at the audience.

And I *know* Sagitta will like how you were doing this in flip flops. I think he's our resident flip flop king. :)

hahaha funny!
someone actually dances in flip flops often? wow! crazy! i wouldnt do that on a regular basis. it was already a pain the first time! haha

Yay! Go samantha!

I saw a great salsero in Santa Barbara dancing in flip-flops in 2004. Really bowled me over.

Yup. I do. You make me proud. :-) See I grew up with flip flops so that's natural for me.

By the way I'm glad you got that right turn fixed.

what a great day for you. congrats!!!

What an awesome story!
The only time i danced in flip flops was in a beach party, and i noticed that i had to keep my feet close to the ground if i didn't want to lose my flips. Actually, it might be a good way to cure dancers from raising their feet too high while doing the basics. :)
