The Czech ban is a 1 month ban on individuals from 15 countries from entering the country. This still leaves some time before the festival starts which the organisers said yesterday they have not cancelled. The government may extended or lift the ban for some countries. Or maybe keep it in place for everybody who knows.

But if the travel ban is still in place in May, regardless of whether the event happens in Prague, it seems like it will be a dead event. Most people came from abroad for this event and it is a closed guest list. If people can't enter the country then the event is effectively over.

The mayor just instituted a ban on all events of 1000+ people.

Not enough information yet. There are a handful of cases where people tested positive after being tested negative but it is unknown if that was simply one (or more) false negative(s) or they reinfected themselves. Scientists calculating the spread of this beast out to 2025 have made multiple scenarios with no immunity, a couple of years immunity and longterm immunity. The results are interesting.

It's interesting that this affects the youngest CHILDREN the least. I'm sure research will suddenly explode. I get the feeling it's the result of increasing development and the bodies natural mechanisms to adapt to advertise conditions as they develop. It's like evolution at work live.

Unfortunately, it is taking time for everybody to really accept the seriousness of this virus and the awful effects it will have on a population and society once it gets out of control. The stories out of China and Italy are horrific. Everyone should be firm with these organizers but at the same time be kind; we could easily be in a similar situation; and they are still flawed human beings caught unexpectedly in a tough spot. Nonetheless the seriousness of what they're doing needs to communicated to them by as many people as possible.

Here's another Festival in Asia that's waiting until the last minute to cancel.

Even the organizers of the Olympics in Japan are still trying operate as if it's a pre-corona world - they keep saying it "cannot" be cancelled or postponed. As if continuing and infecting all the athletes is an option. Once again people need to be firm but kind - communicate the seriousness of the situation and show these organizers what they can do to help.

If that was on Feb 9th, I won’t blame them. At that time it was more about countering pre-justice against Chinese. There was hardly any guidance from CDC or anyone else. Country was led to believe that all proper measures were in place. Virus was only news item of interest as to what was happening in China.

Evolution doesn’t work in few months or years :)

There are some interesting articles written by experts on conjectures about why kids are not falling sick. There is also data coming in that says it may be more circumstantial that kids having more immunity or resistance. We won’t know definite answer for a substantial time till systematic studies come out.

The kids are still capable of catching the virus and transmitting it without getting ill. That is primary reason the schools are being closed. Not to protect kids but to protect parents and teachers from contracting the virus through them.


I am not sure but a long time back I remember reading stats of how parents of kids are more prone to catch certain illnesses (like flu).

Olympics is further off to make a decision today. What do you want organizers to do? Cancel it now?

There is always a possibility that it might get canceled. Hasn’t been ruled out yet. Last I heard on the Olympic situation it was “watch and wait” but possibility that it will be canceled has not being ruled out. There is enough time to take that decision.

By most accounts the infection is suppose to peak by May/June and then start to recede.

It may happen that by time of Olympics some new region or country is peaking. E.g Africa which so far has been spared the brunt. If virus is in retreat globally, by time of Olympics then heighten precautions will still be in place. But I don’t see a reason for it to take place.

Not proven but there is a theory (among experts) that humid hot summer months is when virus spread gets inhibited. Tokyo gets pretty hot and humid. When the games were awarde, its timing was a concern for that reason.

Way way too early. It will require tracking those who recovered for antibodies plus time. By next year this time we will probably start seeing some early determination on that front.

I think there are probably some results from SARS and immune response to coronavirus family.

I haven't, that is why I think possibly of repeat infection should be considered in models.

I'm curious to know what health/exposure/vaccination hx the parents have. It reminds me of the Name era when people of impoverished areas where individuals had a generational hx of exposure to toxins had stronger immunity to the stuff in the jungle. That could be the case here

They should postpone it, give people a year of breathing space so everyone has time to adjust.

Participants come from all over the world and there are too many unknowns out there right now. Who knows what shape some countries will be in in a few months? Some might still be recovering or coming out of the pandemic. Others might be entering it. Either way there's a high chance that people will not or cannot attend.
