The club had several names and owners over the years. It was "Cairo" in 92/93. It was "Club 720" (as in 720 Superior Ave its address) when I was in Chicago. The Arg tango was on the top floor (with skyline view) on Tuesdays and salsa on the ground floor. The salsa band nights were Fridays and Saturdays with bands playing on the top floor. The place closed around 2002 or so and then re-opened later on as something with A... I don't know what format they had when they re-opened or what is going on in the building today.

I didn't like the salsa nights there. They always played these 30-45 min merengue series alternating on the ground floor DJ and when the bands upstairs went on break. It was a constant hustle of having to move up or downstairs to try and find the salsa series and the salsa dance partners in the same room. There were and still are much better salsa clubs in town.

Thanks... That Merg. series is prevalent STILL in the South.. many clubs do a 3 and 3 set .

I do believe it was a Tues, and it was packed, but a good atmosphere ( a lot of "watchers " on main floor where band was.. I was taken there by a friend so had no other choice...

More recently, the club tried to recapture the salsa crowd under yet another name and an announced make-over, Club Avila. However, the club failed sadly.
