CD shops in NY?

Is the GB Records shop in Hell's Kitchen closed for good? Went there today and there's no sign of life...
Are there any latin CD shop in Manhattan now apart from Casa Latina?

I don't know about GB right now, but I think J&R might be a good option. I haven't been there for a while ( at least a year ) but they have a pretty good latin music selection.

There's that shop that reopened in the Times Square subway station, some good stuff, but they are pricey.

Casa Latina is limited -- they tend to have mostly new releases and everything is kept behind the counter. I'll go there now and then when I want something brand new hot off the press, but I always call ahead.

If I think of something else I'll let you know.

Good luck!

J&R's latin section is a good place to start. Went there 4 or 5 years ago after visiting Chinatown and Ground Zero. At that time, eMusica catalog (Fania) was on sale at $9.99 per CD; close witnesses say I behaved like a child in a toy store.

somebody told me Times Square's Virgin store closed a few years ago. a shame considering their cool concept with a huge variety of titles.

Is there any place to buy classic vinyl?
Yes, I have bought some really good stuff at the Academy Records annex in Brooklyn - the main store is in the village. www.academy-records.com

I also like Good Records in the east village, but mostly for jazz and brazilian. Pricey but I have found some real gold there.

Street fairs can be incredible sources for vinyl.

There are a bunch of other vinyl shops but I can't speak about their latin selections.
