Can anyone help me?

Hi guys,
I’m trying to learn dance by myself, but its not working that good and I want to take classes, but I’m too embarrassed to tell my mom, because she doesn’t know the "real me".
She thinks that I am a completely different person. So what should I do?
Thanks in advance!

All sorts of people take dance classes... you'd be surprised. There's absolutely nothing embarrasing about wanting to learn to dance.

Welcome marina_maggi :)

Yes - tell your mum, the oldsters can surprise us from time to time.

It wasn’t until I started salsa that my mum told me she used to tap dance.

Welcome to SF!

Are you really sure that your mother thinks you are "a completely different person"? I don't think that you got any reason to feel embarrassed when talking about your "real me". I would suggest to sit down with her and talk about it all. Ask her what she thinks about you and then you can tell her about your "real me" as well wanting to learn to dance salsa. I guess your mother will be happy to know more about your "real me" and even support you. So don't be afraid and tell her!

Hey, why are you thinking like that you cannot learn yourself. Many effective videos, fun video games and even excellent dancing books available on the net and market that can help you that how to dance everything from hip-hop to the tango and your friends would most likely help you if you just asked them. Hope this will help you.
Best of luck!

I completely disagree. Hip Hop maybe (I dont know, I've never danced HipHop), but Tango and Salsa are partner dances where sure, half of it is knowing the footwork, but half of it is understanding the dynamic communication between you and your partner. Whilst videos/youtube/etc can assist, you simply cannot learn this by yourself. Tell your Mum, and get out dancing with REAL people. :)

I'm with the rest of these guys-- You should tell your mom.

My parents do not dance at all, so I was afraid when I first wanted to dance (in high school), that they would say no, or that they would think it was silly/a waste of time/waste of money etc. - because they were quite strict in general.

But one day I just spit it out and they said yes.
I think they get a little thrill of pride in me, that I did something that wasn't really ever done in our family. (My younger sisters have danced since)
- My sister and I practice new moves for salsa with each other- and my dad loves to see the turns and stuff. Who knew!?

At the time it was certainly stress-y for me but it was worth it... :D
-besides, doesn't it get tiring acting the way you think your mom expects you to act?
