black long loose pants

Black long loose pants are not good for education. They make it hard or impossible to see certain movements. Even worse in recorded form.

Teachers please, please think about it! Not everything that looks good is appropriate for all occasions. :)

Where did you see instructors wear black long loose pants? Long loose pants sounds more ideal for kung fu or karate.

I typically wear skirts 95% of the time and I have seen my dance partners wear everything from white long loose pants to jeans to leather pants to dress pants but never black long loose pants :friend:

you just have to go to frankie martinez classes..they use very very tight pants jajaja..

in fact I cant remember teachers in lose pants..

It was an exaggeration, but just do youtube search for salsa lessons and you'll see what I mean.

Black is bad because it's hard to see shades and thus create a three dimentional picture. With bad recording + compression, pieces of black get compressed together and details just go away. Also for technologies it's hard to record/display dynamics from white to black the way humans see it, so there are always compromises, if any of these "colors" are recorded.

Long is bad when it covers feet and ankles. They are important parts in dancing and if they are not clearly visible, it takes away from the education.

Lose is bad because it disguises real action of joints, which is important for all movements. Difference of a couple centimeters or an inch can be important.

And pants .. well that's probably focus on male teachers on my part. Sorry about that :)

In salsa like in the martial arts instructors often go for looking cool instead of clarity.

I'm glad you posted this thread Smejmoon. I frequently dance in black and never gave it a second thought. Black is the easiest colour to match with my more colourful clothes so I often salsa in black skirts, black pantyhose, black boots. Should I be wearing brighter colours more so my lower body movement is more pronounced?

You can wear black, as long as the skirt/dress is short. Or it's tights/pantyhose.
If it is long and lose then it doesnt matter if you wear florescent green, or pitch black. it's never a good idea

Speaking of florescent colours like neon greens, pinks, yellows and blue, I once went to a salsa club with a rave theme. The music and the dances were salsa dances but the walls of the club were black and people wore florescent glow stickers and glow tubes on them. For the people who wore the florescent glow tubes on their legs, their hip and legs movements were really really well highlighted, no pun intended!

Now that's interesting. Would love to attend something like that, since I was a rave head until not too long ago

You can, but it looks really boring. My wardrobe was at least half black before I started salsa. After a while I realized black just fades completely into the background in a dark club. I think bright colors look much better on the dance floor.

I'd love to see someone develop a partner dance to 'dance' music. Something cool that could be done to house, dnb or trance. Maybe something like a combination of hustle, West Coast Swing and the Melbourne Shuffle. :D

Hellooo.. What happened to jumping up and down in sync with your partner and fist pumping? LOL

What colours do you wear for salsa now?

While I've got some whites and colourful dresses, tube tops, tank tops and skirts, I realize that all my pantyhose is either black or glossy suntan. Has anyone tried some of the more outrageous colour pantyhose/tights like bright red, patterned purple, neon yellow, etc?

On my travels, you would be surprised at what I have seen in certain countries. I have seen clubs mix salsa music with Lady Gaga, Eminem, Kei$ha, Usher, Katy Perry although the songs they do mix in are remixes with somewhat of a Latin beat

That reminds me Lolita, perhaps for Halloween salsa events, I can wear glow in the dark makeup on my face and sprinkle some neon glow powder on my dress and pantyhose!

It is funny that you mention this topic of loose black pants because here in Montana, the guys seem to only have pants in two colors. Blue jeans or black pants.

Good thing we girls have skirts and pantyhose in a large variety of colors, even here in Montana :)
