Berlin Salsa Congress and Timba

Tomm

Son
I checked out Berlin Salsa Congress and didnt find any Information on the Website if there is a room for Timba/Casino. So I asked via Mail. Answer: There is no Room for Timba and there wont be any timba in the Main floor.

The sad thing is, they have a Kizomba room :(

I though berlin has a strong Casino scene...?

Who is going btw?

As far as I know, the Berlin congress is a timba-free zone. The venue has one giant room (mambo room when shows are not on), a smaller floor in the foyer (which serves as the kizombachata area) and an even smaller floor at the other end of the foyer, which served as the alternative salsa area and a useful (albeit overcrowded) refuge for those escaping the shows 2 years ago, but apparently played hip-hop instead last year (I wasn't there so this is second-hand info from unhappy friends who went).

I think DJ Mauri will be there and he appears to relish dropping timba tracks on a roomful of mambo dancers these days, so you may hear some timba now and again, but don't expect a lot of casino dancers there...

Congresses I know that have a Cuban room are Zurich, MamboCity (London) and Scottish (Edinburgh). There may be more I don't know.

I haven't decided if I'm going to Berlin this year. I don't particularly like the setup of that congress, but on the other hand the Netherlands will be pretty empty during the Berlin weekend so staying home won't be great either :(

Yes, but that a different crowd of people from those that attend the Berlin Salsa Congress. The congress is also very international and most people who attend don't live in Berlin.

Bachaturo (Warsaw/Poland) also has a Cuban room.

Its my Personal opinion:
I have only been to the Zurich congress and now berlin, so I cannot really compare
Shows were way too long, during the shows the Kizomba room was open, and the Bachata "floor" played bachata /salsa.
To much Kizomba in general, workshops and party.
Workshops , way too many people, guess thats normal. Cannot rate the teachers. The Workshop format really isnt my cup of tea.
It was not allowed to bring waterbottles to the workshop, I have no problem not allowing it for the party, but for the workshops?
Had to pay for the Preparty in the main venue, even tho Iam sure it stated on the website that thursday preparty was included in the fullpass.

I cannot rate the Mainevent as I dont dance NYon2 or even any of the linear styles.
The best thing was watching super mario dance with the ladies and giving them huge smiles....

It was... Berlin.

The Bad (IMHO):

The water and drinks policy still sucks.
The production and theme this year wasn't my cup of tea. Saturday night shows were very poor in general, in addition to being rather long. I know three friends who had the same opinion about the Saturday shows. Sunday shows were decent, but only because the biggest names rescued the showblock (barely).

The Good:
There was no second block of shows, not even on Sunday because they integrated the fashion show (which I'm really not crazy about) into the main showblock.
I liked the music that was being played, especially on Sunday night when the artistes/instructors were DJing.
I liked the two workshops that I attended (Rumba by Tropical Gem and Adv Partnerwork by Terry&Cecile).

The Unrelated:
Met a lot of old friends and some salsa acquaintances, made a few new ones.
Had a lot of fun dancing.
