Benefits of dancing at different levels...

This thread is really inspired by Boriken and SalsaChinita at our sister site but I'm gonna reword a little to help us stay on topic. :) What are the benefits of dancing with people at different levels in Salsa? For instance, you know a great lead who is what you might consider of an advance level or a total beginning follow who is nervous about dancing with anyone who has been dancing a little bit longer than they have. What would be the benefits of dancing with either of them? Also, are there times when you focus a little bit more on any level to polish a specific skill that you want to work on?

Most beginning dancers tend to hug me more, during and after the dance.  :D

Thanks, PeachE.....!

Dancing with partners who come from various styles & levels would be by far most beneficial for your own dancing.

Dancing with partner who are most advanced than yourself would mean that you pay more attention to cope with unfamiliar moves given by the leads (from a follower's point) or trying out new/unfamiliar leads (from a leader's point).

Dancing with partners who are newbies/less experienced would mean consolidation everything you already know. Working on giving clearer leads or becoming constructive followers are just a few benefits.

Anyone else....?

Dancing at different levels is very helpful... it improves the dancing skills of both leads and follows! I strongly advise everyone to do it!

Dancing at different levels

I think this is as crucial as dancing with different partners. What I am beginning to realize, is that learning to dance, patterns, footwork is what 's taught and what people want to learn. However, you don't learn to lead or for that matter, learn to follow, unless you dance with different people of all levels. After all it is a partner dance and connecting to your partner is what it's all about?

For leaders that are just beginning, this is more difficult as most experienced dancers just don't want to dance with you. Question? What can leaders do during the dance to make it worthwhile for you experienced dancer's to take the plunge? :?:

Relax and be open instead of intimidated. Enjoy the music & your present company. Dance with her (regardless how many or few moves you know)........and remember, you don't need to impress anyone here 8) . We are all but mortals sharing a common passion for salsa (as a lifestyle).
