Ballads by salsa artists

Son Montuno
The Paulo FG discussion got me back on a couple of the ballads from the CD "Te deseo suerte" so then I was thinking about ballads by salsa bands in general. There are a handful of ballads by Cuban groups (pop-style, not bolero) that I really love because they have some great lyrics. So what are some ballads by salsa artists that have great lyrics? Note not just "oh baby I love you and I can't live without you baby baby baby", but something that really moves you emotionally. Boleros with good lyrics also of interest to me.

For example:

Great refrain:
Te desearé
La fuerza que a mi lado no pudiste tener
El beso que hace rato no acaricia tu piel
La mágia que le falta tu sonrisa
Te desearé
El sueño realizado en tu ilusión de papel
Que alguien enamorado te desborde la miel
Aunque no puedo tenerte yo te deseo suerte.

Y aunque ya no estés conmigo, mi luz verás en el camino
Ya así será mi cariño tu resguardo porque yo

Jura - PFG live with Chucho Valdés

Great first verse
Amar no ha sido tan sencillo
Como tan solo darte un beso
Y decir que te quiero
Amar ha sido aquel camino
Que yo escogí para vivir contigo

refrain:
Jura que nunca en mí desconfiarás
Que no habrán dudas ningunas
Que siempre me amarás como yo te amo a ti
Con la verdad sobre mi alma desnuda

And one of y all time favorites Tú y yo una misma cosa - Bamboleo
Really simple lyrics but sometimes the best way of saying things is with the fewest words. I love Vania's voice.

the Azúcar Negra version is more a modern R&B style.

I have always had a weakness for los VV's "Tu Me Haces Falta". I just have it on the En Vivo album. The letra is perhaps not that great but it has "feelin" :)

LOL and Formell's beautiful vocals. I end up listening to that a lot because I love that album.

EDIT: Ran across this video of Paulo singing Jura and Te deseo suerto with Yulién Oviedo. I love Yulién's voice. Sad that most of the reggeaton he sings is vulgar. the audio's not great but it's an interesting little clip. LOL just imagine Yuli standing next to Chucho :)

Issac Delgado has an entire album of boleros and ballads (L.O.V.E), I'm not
sure but I don't think anything was written by him..... the Spanish version of Star Dust is nice ....

If you like boleros (a musical form that I much prefer to ballads and nueva trova), Celia Cruz has an entire album of boleros. It is a great album from
one of the great voices of all time.

Oh yeah, Issac's CD. I don't have that one. I have nothing at all by Celia.

Yes! I thought of Puro Teatro, too.

She had an incredible voice also didn't she? Not really a salsa artist however. I love "Me siento Guajira." Supposedly she was the model for the singer of boleros in Cabrera Infante's masterpiece "Tres Tristes Tigres".

To bolero lovers, I bought not too long ago, Luz Casal's Pasión. Highly recomended. A Spanish rockera but she has a wonderful voice. I love the
version of "Historia de un Amor" that she does.

La Lupe is considered a Salsa artist due to her participation with Tito Puente.
However she had a class of her own of course.

Out of context though I stil miss my beloved Puerto Rico venues. Where after much salsa dancing a good Bolero song would actually give you a small breather to catch your breath and feel a little "romantico"!! LOL I havent heard ONE bolero played at any socials I've been to.

That's a good point. I always associate her with those big "torch" songs ......
great showcases for that voice. Not many people in the USA know HOW to dance to a bolero is probably the reason (including unfortunately myself).

I also miss the good repertoire that the venues and live bands have in PR, Salsa, a good dose of Cha-Cha-Cha, guajira and of course the boleros.

Here in New Jersey, (no offense to anyone) its just salsa, merengue, bachata & reggaeton.
I miss my good guajiras/cha-cha & boleros- that would be a Salsa night.

Another good bolero- Tito Rodriguez!!! aaaahhhh **Coro Celestial***
Beso Borracho by Bobby Valentin- very nice Bolero
