Back into salsa again (since monday) [London specific]

Hi peeps,

took a disinterest in salsa, unfortunatrely for a while (probably since the last time I posted), due to other hobbies, thai boxing, weight training and swimming.

Now I'm taking a break from thai boxing because of injury, and I've discovered the most unusal thing.

First day back, I suddenly get compliments from a lot of women about my hip and body movement.

In thai boxing we use a lot of hip movements to build momentum and power with our kicks, also there is a lot of balance and coordiantion work in thai boxing. So I think you all could easily transfer your salsa to fighting if you wanted :p

Anyway, went to bar salsa on monday and had a great class, and the music was exactly the sort of type I've been listhening to on the salsa beginners compilations.. So I could spot the 1's and have some luck at timing my dance to the music.

Just got back from bar salsa today (wednesday), and the classes and DJ are run by two completely different organisations.. While both classes taught to move on 1, and were pretty much "cross body style" or "linear style", however the music they played after class was completely different on each days..

As I already mentioned on monday they played music similar to my beginners guide to salsa compilation so I could recgnise them and dance to it. But the music they played on Wednesday was more heavy drums and sounded very carribean, at one point I thought it sounded like reggae music. And there was no chance for me to dance with the rythem or even find the 1.

Can you guys [and gals] recommend me a salsa bar thats packed (so I can practice and get my 10 dances per night goal] and also recommened me a place with the right kinda of music playing too.

Thanks...hope I didn't bore you with the long diatribe

Last time I went to Salsa Fusion (I think it's on every 2nd Saturday) it was packed. But that was a while ago. Don't know what it's like now.

Welcome back to the London Salsa scene!
I've got a good mate who loves his kickboxing as well as his Salsa and I think there is even a thread about this on SF.

Which night of the week works best for you?
Have a look at this thread for lots of links:

It's ok. It wasn't packed the night I went but there were more than enough people to get a 10 dance fix.

Welcome back LondonTiger! :)

Wow... Funny, I started taking Muay Thai in September of '07 and went consistantly for a half year, but had to stop due to schedule conflicts. I just started back after about a year hiatus and am on my 3rd week (taking Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well). I just got round kicked in the thigh for the first time last night and it's still sore! I can still walk and dance on it, though.

Welcome back Tiger :)

So does that mean I'll get a dance with you when I visit London (13-15 Nov)? ;)
