Bachata is wonderful!

Went to my first workshop in bachata. The instructor was Jorge Elizondo. It was so much fun and he was very pedagogic. I'm completely in love with bachata now. I'm going for the workshop tomorrow as well. Can't wait! :D Just had to share it with you guys. Had a great day and made a wonderful discovery in bachata. I'm hooked!

Jorge Elizondo is a really good teacher. I've heard many good things about him. He also created a bachata rueda video/DVD, I believe. Glad that you got the chance to learn from him. :D

BRILLIANT!!!!!!! YAY :)

quick question:
I have Jorge's dvds. I LOVE THE BASIC STEP and was dissapointed he did not break it down in the DVDs. Does he break it down much in workshops and spend much time on it?

Great to hear! I personally LOVE bachata - although when I first started dancing it thought it felt quite strange, like a lot of people do.

But it really grows on you and now I won't go home unless I've had a few Bachatas :)

It's such a beautiful dance - I'm glad you've taken to it!

I already regret I didn't buy his dvd. In the workshop he spends a lot of time on the basic. He put a lot of effort in to making us do it in a smooth way. We did different exercises to really learn how to move our hips and mark the tap in a nice way. I think he was absolutely brilliant!

I actually danced bachata at a social for the first time last night. It was hard, a lot of fun och wonderful! So I think I might need to start do like you, not go home until I've danced some bachata, from now on. :D

I thought it felt strange at first as well, it's a lot more different from salsa than I thought. But I'm hoping it will feel more natural as I keep practising.

don't regret. Perhaps you like his style but I have all his DVDs and find it better for learning moves not technique per se. So better for leader...

He has sample clips on youtube though so decide for yourself. As I said, I REALLY wanted focus on bachata basic steps which I felt was lacking in the dvds eg. explanation of timing, posture, common mistakes with basics, holding your partner etc.

It's great to have you guys on this forum to share things like this with. Since most of my friends are non-dancers they mostly roll their eyes when I start talking about dancing for the gazillionth time. :D

You should really try a workshop with him if you ever have the chance. He is very focused on the basics and on the guys leading. We did a lot of exercises for the guys to learn to "control her entire body and movement" as he described it. So in the workshops he builds a solid ground to stand on before even mentioning turnpatterns.

Absolutely agree, bachata is amazing !!
Very nice and sensual dance.

It sure is! Is it popular in Moscow?

There's always bachata at almost any salsa party.
Some people (like me :) ) love it, some start grumbling when they hear bachata (or what's even worse for them 2-3 bachatas in a row  ).

Personally I don't like parties where there's ONLY salsa. It gets monotonous and dull. (i can already see people with  faces  ).
So I prefer parties which are a good mix ;)

I wouldn't say that I love it, but bachata is nice. Especially if you dance to it with the right partner. :)

So you would never go to a salsa congress because you only get to hear salsa at the parties? ;)

I concur. Only salsa is booring, I love the occasiuonal cha-cha and why not bachata as well, if I have the right partner. Even at congresses I want a mix; cha-cha is good because less people dance it so then I'll have more space.

I love a good bachata, but my problem is that it's limiting. You need a partner who knows how to bachata, otherwise it's just stepping side to side or, even worse, unwanted grinding for 3 minutes. When you get 2-3 bachatas in a row, it's impossible to find a good partner to dance with so I end up just watching, which I don't like :(.

I feel the same thing about merengue, by the way - I love it, but only when I've got a good partner. Many salsa dancers just do salsa moves to merengue, which is no fun.

understand exactly!

Man, like eating one food type all day. Even if your favourite or best food in the world, you need variety if just to make you appreciate your favourite when it comes around. AND THUS PLEASE DJS, play bachatas, merengue, cha cha cha to break the salsa up :) :) :)

Looking forward to a dance with you definitely! Bachata and Merengue ALL ABOUT CONNECTION, mmmmmmmmm can be such a great time. The smiles and looks that you share with your partner in merengue and bachata are enough to feed me for weeks!!!

* I really want to get a sexy cha cha cha happening to, I love the potential with that dance as I love the music and the escorting the girl on the cha cha cha..........................
