Andrew's Top 5

When people are asked for their top 5 salsa records of all time, it is usually an impossible question to answer because there is so much good stuff out there. However my MP3 player has play history feature and has a record of the 100 tracks I listen to the most; so based on frequency of play, my top 5 salsa recordings for the month of September are…

1. A la hora que me llamen voy – José Alberto
Cheers me up every time I listen to it. The ultimate track to get a salsa party started. I’m yet to get bored and I’ve listened to it hundreds of times during the last 8 months. I can’t see it leaving my top 5 for a while.

2. Sonora Poncena – Te Vas De Mi
A nice even paced recording – easy on the ears but still urges you to dance. Has crept up my top 100, amazingly I didn’t like it at first.

3. Sonora Carruseles – Micaela
Slightly cheesy but overcomes this by being unique. Great fun to dance to. Has been in my top five for ages but I don’t listen to it as much as I used to.

4. Sonora Poncena – Ramona
Another Poncena masterpiece; again it drives you to dance. Always liked this one has been in my top ten for ages but is creeping up.

5. Alabanciosa – Manny Oquendo y su Conjunto Libre
Certainly the heaviest of my top five, I love the way this recording builds in intensity. However it used to be number 2; I’ve played it so much in the past that I often fast forward past it now.

I’ve only ever danced socially to numbers 1 and 3 :(

Funny, I just listened to that this morning. (I hadn't put it on for a little while.) Great song.

I really couldn't stand this for a long time, and it didn't help that it was so heavily played, but I think it's finally won me over somewhat.

One of my favorites.
