About the trending topic on facebook about salsa on2

Frankie was extremely (excessively ) wordy but C100% correct. The Tumbao hits all 1/8th beats in a 4/4 bar structure. If you're breaking on any of the even beats (4 and 8 feel wierd admittedly) and keeping constant rhythm... your dancing to the music. Articulate it how you want. cow bell hits hard in most salsa songs. And it's easy to here.
The guts in the Vid are full of sh.. themselves a bit. And talking out both sides of their mouths. "Hey, it's cool if you want to dance on 1. I'm not gonna judge... but".
Son is danced to the clave (left breaks back with right on the 2 strike of the 2 side, weight shift to right foot on 1st and returns to neutral on 3Rd strike of the 3 side), so it's either 2 or 6. And ChachaCHÁ is danced to the Tumbao with the shuffle on Kungkungk. These are stablished rules and came from it's dance predecessor. Salsa is a Mish mash. Some songs sound BETTER to some people 1 way or another but since the dancer is an instrument and he's playing a different part in the song while keeping the rhythm. Also why can't the dancer break on 1 and accentuate the 2?
I can't believe a video on such an unimportant topic would work me up so much.
Original Mambo. Some steps are on 2. some on 1. Some syncopated.

You think you're mad? I actually bought a DVD of La Epoca when it first appeared, and was very excited about watching a documentary on a subject that absolutely fascinates me - the mambo era. Unfortunately for me La Epoca is about the most badly-made documentary on any subject ever, and an insult to the mambo era dancers. I wrote some posts on here expressing my opinions and many years later Mr Epoca joined this forum to throw a tantrum about my posts. He also made some extremely far-fetched claims about various famous people who are no longer with us considering his dreadful 'film' to be good.

I've not watched the vid above as life is too short however my opinion of La Epoca is obvious. The fact that it has achieved some degree of success and acclaim on the salsa scene says a lot about the latter.

Josué is a bad dancer who markets the hell out of himself, Mek is an excellent dancer who can't explain what's inside. Don't listen to them, watch Mek dancing. Go where he pushes you. Decide for yourself. Same with Frankie. Excellent dancer, try his ideas, his moves. Decide for yourself.

Also music is out there for us to hear and connect. Why do we need priests to explain conga rhythm? It's one of the simplest rhythms in salsa and just try and learn it. Get explanations from musicians if needed.

Guys, as far as Ive understood. They are referring to the following

In the previous video Eddie Torres, instead of doing one-two, he is actually doing cuncun-2, cuncun-6, and I think it is more like 8-2, 4-6, and this is what Mr Epoca is trying to explain in the video, the theory says 1 for the right and 2 for the left, but in the end he is doing 8 for right and 2 for left. Is like a "mambo with son". Indeed, I really like to dance in the style 8-2, 4-2 I mean, with the tumbadoras. Is that right for you guys? If so, in the end both "styles" are correct?

This is age old topic. After you listen to what on2 teachers say, look how they actually dance. You'll be surprised.

So why Frankie is complaining about it? Is it because Mr Epoca was to reductionist? If so, what is the right way to explain this without falling into "[...]This video takes the infinity complex and simplifies it into the ramblings of teenagers who feel they have figured life out. In their meager stages of development they somehow thought they saw truth no one else could see. " (F.M) ?

He felt like preaching and devil appeared. So it was right moment, I guess.
None of the guys are teenagers, Josué is/was quite immersed in music and Mek in dance. Could be 30+ years as well. Which doesn't stop them (any of them) from crazytalk now and then. :D Even I regret some of what I've posted here with full confidence in zeal.

I do think watching videos from all sides help when trying to understand something. People telling others to be careful about what it is they are consuming is nothing new.

Tbh, in many songs I can't even hear the tumbao (either my ears are bad or the bass line is too low to be heard) so I just follow the "gaps" in the melody.

I juat wish my life was in such perfect order that I had the time and resources and friends with same time and resources to make a good quality video about how YOU can dance on whatever beat you want and that won't judge you, but I'm going tell you it's wrong and your not connected to it properly.

Interestingly, FM toured with Josue all over the place touting LaEpoca films and mambo. I found it curious FM basically threw him under the bus.
