A question for you...

Hello everyone,
I need a little help,
next month will go on vacation to new york, I would buy CDs and vinyl of salsa, can you recommend some stores?
I do not mind whether it is a manhattan, brooklyn, or even a more distant.
It 'true that there are also shops that sell used CDs?
regards
Adriano

Hey Adriano........

another place you might go to is J&R's which is located down by wall street and brooklyn bridge across the street from City Hall..............unfortunately, GB records is no longer carrying any of the Fania Reissues now that Fania was resold...except for what they have left in stock. But of course you can find a heck of alot of other great great items for the best price anywhere! Just remember....bring cash stashed in your shoes haha.....no credit cards accepted at GB records.

Anyway.....for a great selection of strange Japanese and Euro imports of hard-to-find albums and Fania catalogue.......go to J&R electronics......I think it's like store 23 or something like that......just ask around when you get there - - the whole of J&R is like a block big. In essence, it's a humoungous set of stores that sell music equipment, computers, tvs etc.......and one of them focuses on music.....latin being up on the 2nd or 3rd floor. They often have items on sale.....but sometimes the prices are not buyer-friendly. Sometimes, though, you can score some great deals and find some strange stuff.

As far as vinyl.....I don't know if you'll find any good hard-to-find items at any of the stores. Depends on what you're looking for...there's usually alot of not-so-hard to find Eddie Palmieri's, Richie Rays, Sonora Poncenas and SAR labeled items lying around that you can pretty much pick up on cd anyway......and very very rarely do you really bump into something sweet worth buying. But again...it really just depends on what you're looking for and whether you are a true vinyl freak or just want an original non-mp3 downloadable item for your collection...................don't expect to find Joe Acosta's 1st album, Gorbea's 1st album or other impossibilities just lying around for $2.......unless you know a collector willing to sell and then you know you'll be paying what it's worth - - you'll just frustrate yourself digging through crate after crate hoping to find gold...if you go with that expectation. But...you can find some good albums none-the-less for pretty cheap...just depends also on how extensive your collection currently is.

With that said....let me see if I can find the list of vinyl stores I had compiled at one point....I know I have one for Chicago...but the NY one I think I chucked out......I do recall a couple of stores on 12 ave......Big City Records and one like 2 doors down ....

Good Luck,
Erik

J&R is located a block away from Ground Zero.
