8 Y Mas - Pa' Colombia

Sounds like they are singing "Cali es Cali" unless I'm mishearing. That's a clue. Doesn't sound particulary Colombian to me though.

I think I recognize the singer, but can't name or place him.

Singer sounds famliar to me to, could be whoever sings on Ricky Gonzalez's "Mi rumba es candela" on the album "Oasis", which would mean it's one of Ray Viera, Herman Olivera, José Alberto "El Canario," Jimmy Sabater, or Frankie Vazquez (though it's not Jose Alberto I think!)

Also I think Ruben Rodriguez is introduced on bass (who is also on "Oasis"), but it's not a track from that album.

Count out Jimmy Sabater, El Canario, and Frankie Vazquez, i don't think it's Hernan Olivera either, but I'm not to keen on his voice...

Hope you don't mind me bumping this one but I'm itching to know the title/artist, anyone any ideas?

When I first heard it I must admit I couldn't get Wayne Gorbea out of my head and thought possibly the singer was Frank Otero from Salsa Picante but after reading your post Salsero's, it could well be Frankie Vázquez. Whoever it is, to me it really has a 'Gorbeaish' feel to it (I like making up words) :D

Hi,

It's a great song. I would love to know from whom. It really sounds like Frankie Vazquez. Are you sure it is not a live performance? In that case it could have never been recorded in CD.

It was a live performance alright, but the track is on the new "8 y mas" CD "Juega Billar" - the track is "Pa' Colombia" (Frankie Vazquez on vocals)

8 Y Más!
Juega Billar
CD (Q&A 12492), Released 2006;
Editor's Pick:
Okay folks, here's the salsa CD we've been waiting for — and just in time to make our Best of 2006 list: A bulls-eye salsa dura featuring New York's best players... vocalist supreme Frankie Vázquez, conguero Bobby Allende, Marc Quiñones on timbales, pianist Ricky Gonzalez, bassist Rubén Rodríguez, trumpeters Raul Agraz and Angel Fernandez. The band plays some astonishing renditions of compositions by Lalo Rodriguez, Ismael Miranda, Rubén Blades, Ray Barretto, C. Curet Alonso and other heavies. Don't miss Ricky González' arrangement of the classic "Toro Mata", a salsa hall-of-fame track originally made gold by Celia Cruz and Johnny Pacheco. Here, guests Tito Nieves and Domingo Quiñones kick into high gear for a period of pure salsa heaven. Also features a fitting tribute to Ray Barretto, an original track featuring Barretto's son Chis on saxophone.
A big DJ Alert, and a salsa Must-Have.
Very Highly Recommended. (BP, 2006-11-24)

This song was being played when I walked into a local club last night -- I thought I recognised Tito's voice ;). It sounded real good. My SO's ordered this CD, and I can't wait to listen to the whole album!

The original version is by Willy Colon & Hector Lavoe, by the way...
