Is there a thread about this that I missed somewhere? Anyone going? Anyone interested in another SF meetup?

I'll be there on Saturday afternoon to watch my sister's performance team. If you want to find me, look for the best dancer in the crowd........................................... then look for the guy who is bitterly jealous of that guy and that's me. :-) I wish I could stay for the evening or even get an all day pass but I'm broke :-( Next time. Have fun everyone.

I have a last minute plans to attend the Sat and Sun night. Willmost probably drive down to LA on Saturday with my dp. Still have to check up on accommodation options.

Hoping to see the local LA SFers

Another meetup would be a no-go for me, but I'll be there Friday night and probably Sunday night as well. Actually to be honest I might get antsy on Saturday and come out that night too, but I'm trying not to. I'll be sure to come say hi (and maybe you could lead me?).

Missy recently joined a team (Tropical Rhythms) and will be performing Sat. evening.
They performed last night a Sevilla's Riverside and I must say, I was surprised at how good they were. I'm not big on teams but I give the director credit for the fine job he has done.

Melissa has been working on her on2, so I hope that any SF on2ers that are going, ask her for a dance on2.

Did anyone go?

Missy's team did well.

I wasn't going to go on sunday, but my wife called, telling me that my ten year old daughter wanted to audition for sunday night's performance. Albert Torres gave her a chance. (What was he thinking?) I thought that was crazy, but Gigi begged me to get her stuff togeather and get the music copied. I was beside myself when she told me that she passed the tech. rehearsal and given the green light. She was the only kid in the sunday show. She did a Michael Jackson routine.
I was surpised at how well she did.
...and to think, she made it all happen on her own.

Wow, that performance was great!

I'd also love to hear how the congress was...maybe anyone who was there is busy being tired or still dancing!?

I was there on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday nights. It was the most fun I've had at a congress yet, but that's probably a function of my having only been to 3 congresses and my now being at a level where I can dance with any and everyone without being scared. I didn't watch a lot of shows at all (not that I didn't have the option  More on this below), opting to either socialize with friends or dance in another room instead. Free water as usual was clutch. It got really hot and I sweated A LOT, as did everyone else. Friday the floors actually got sticky because there was so much moisture in the air, and from what I hear, the same thing happened Saturday.

The one big criticism I have is the number of shows. Thursday wasn't bad at all in this aspect, but Friday had some 40 shows and Sunday had around the same amount. Friday I got there around 10:30...shows NOT EVEN CLOSE to over. A friend of mine came back to where I was standing like "I'm tired of sitting down". I asked when the shows started, she said around 8:30. They didn't end until well after 12. In fact, it was probably closer to 1 than 12. Sunday I went to a club first and didn't even get to the congress until like 11:30...the shows were still going. At 12 it was time for my friend to start DJing in another room so I went in there...but the shows were still going when I left. It was another 15-20 minutes before they were over. At some point it's just too much. Thursday the shows were over a little after 11; I really wish the other nights had been the same way.

I probably danced with too many locals; I wanted to dance with my friends, but I didn't take stock of the fact that I know twice as many people now than I did last year (which was before I started running with the on2 crowd). I didn't do any celebrity hunting, but I did have some amazing dances with randoms, so that's all that matters for me. Also an old friend that I went to school with in St. Louis showed up, which was great because the last time I danced with her prior was when I was nothing more than a sacrifice dance for her.

All in all, I'd say the congress was an awesome experience for me, and I was still buzzing yesterday. But I also decided that I need to get out to some other congresses when I get a chance so that I won't be around all my friends and by default I'll dance with a greater variety of people.

yeah i heard the shows were very excessive .... that ridiculous considering they have the "afternoon shows' in their program. From what I also heard some of the performances didn't deserve the "night show" slot. I'm not to speak ... but anyways as a spectator I don't want to sit for 4 hours much less 2 hours if it's mediocre. Should be only the headliners if not the ones who posted up the best performances during tech rehearsal.

Anyways I miss being at a congress... I'm thinking of San Fran definitely,....

and lol @ "celebrity hunting" :P

My sister's team got slated for the afternoon which turned out to be a huge blessing because it was cheap (12 bux so family was able to make it out) and it wasn't too long or crowded. Salsa congresses are always in a difficult position of balancing business with putting on a sensible show. More groups means more money and better payout so they will naturally gravitate towards that. Shame that it fatigues the audience so much. I heard there was like 45 groups on one night.
