3 years into dancing and it still makes no sense to me why bachata gets played in a salsa event, even ones with no mention of bachata in the description...

Are leading and following techniques strongly connected to a dance?

I agree. From my experience of learning traditional kizomba (with a casino background), I had to adopt the concept of leading continuously, whereas in my (then pretty basic) casino I could get away with only leading in impulses. An example of an impulse lead signal would be to lead a right...

    Salsa open diary

Watched videos of myself social dancing after lockdown. I've developed a serious case of T-Rex wrist and I must dedicate the next month or so to making amends.

What is your biggest pet peeve in a dance partner?

Finger slips mid-turnpattern and the follower (usually beginner) immediately stops stepping.

Dear salsa open diary, After a series of lockdowns (UK), I am finally starting to observe signs of rust. I thought I was keeping well; my rhythm is still watertight and my body movement seems fine. I was able to keep track of those any time I listened to the music or walked past a mirror here...

How do you dance with people who expect to be manhandled?

How do you dance with people who expect to be manhandled?

I usually try to keep my signals as weak as possible to preserve my energy and negotiate a softer dance. I would also let the follower's hands slip out of mine a few times, especially if the tension 'pulsates' with the rhythm. This usually helps but won't work if the real problem with the...

    A Salsa dancer's shelf life...

Hmm, in a social dancing context I think your peak is when you are having the most fun so that depends on you i guess

Every time covid cases are in decline, I daydream about salsa socials. So now I'll lurk for a few weeks until we either get out of restrictions or cases increase again. How are you doing?

    A Salsa dancer's shelf life...

See the real question is whether they'll all need new knees later in life. I can't see Afro-Cuban dances doing any favours to their knees

    Dance-along Videos

Hey everyone, long time I was sitting here at home and suddenly longed for one of those 'animations' that would take place in parties, so I thought I should look for a virtual animation on youtube. This is the closest I found to an animation. It did the job... Nothing educational, just...

    A thought about timing..

When I was a child and attended my first dj party, I went on YouTube to learn how to dance because I was panicking. The video made me promise it that I will never clap, snap or point because it claims that its a 'dorky' thing to do. That promise is still ingrained in my head, but I never really...

Thoughts about Covid-19 and the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus

How do you justify the increase in global death rates compared to the 10 year average? Surely covid is the reason for it

So how is everyone feeling after 4+ months of no dancing? (lurkers welcome!)

Im in a bit of an unfortunate place. All the above-average dancers in my city almost never come out locally. There are some who I only see in events in other cities. I am in no contact with a suitable partner right now. I wish I was more proactive with collecting Facebook accounts back in the day.
